Cigarette packet slim, the S9900 is just about thin enough to slip into a spare pocket. Indeed, at 112 x 66 x 40mm (4.5 x 2.6 x 1.60-in) and 289g (10.2oz), its space-saving design and light weight are ideal for a trip around town or for jetting off to the other side of the world.

30x optical zoom range; Slim; lightweight yet solid build; Very effective Vibration Reduction system; Vari-angle LCD screen

Can't shoot in raw quality mode; No built-in or optional viewfinder; Image quality is a little lacking; LCD isn't a touchscreen

Very interesting little camera

I was looking for a easy to carry camera that fit into my Go Bag or pocket when I didn't want to carry my DSLR. After months of research, this camera became available. It meets or exceeds every requirement except shooting in RAW. I can live with that.

Easy To Use; Good Image Quality; Great Zoom; Large Clear LCD; Small / Compact

No RAW

Great deal - great camera

Couldn't believe all of the extras that came with the package - what a great deal compared to the big box store price for the camera alone. Still getting familiar with the camera. Plan on using it for our trip out west this summer.

I purchased this to take on our Alaska vacation, to add to my D7000. I was taking a Nikon 18-300 lens, and did not want to be dragging it everywhere with that lens, but I like to have a camera with me at all times.

Nikon S9900 review

The Nikon S9900 is an update to the S9700 , a pocket ultra-zoom camera that we really liked when we tested it in 2014. It uses what appear to be the same 30x lens and 16-megapixel sensor, and once again includes both Wi-Fi and GPS.

Nikon Coolpix S9900: Retro style 30x superzoom (hands-on)

The Nikon Coolpix S9900 supplants the S9700 and brings with it a new design, adding some retro feel to this superzoom camera. It has grown slightly over the previous model, but it brings with it a big change, and that's a 3-inch vari-angle display on the rear.

Nikon COOLPIX S9900

The Nikon COOLPIX S9900 is a compact super-zoom with a 30x optical range. Released in February 2015 it's an update to the COOLPIX S9700 which was launched a year earlier. The new model retains the 25-750mm equivalent f3.7 - 6.4 lens of its predecessor along with the 16 Megapixel CMOS sensor.

30x stabilised optical zoom; 3in Vari-angle LCD screen; 2nd command dial; Time-lapse video feature

Comparatively bulky; Lacks an electronic viewfinder; Basic remote shooting features; No RAW mode; but it's of limited use on this type of camera

The Nikon CoolPix S9900 has been designed as an amazing travel camera, with a feature set that is ready for any situation. Less than outstanding image quality is the only thing that stops us from giving a full recommendation. Read more in our Full Conclusion .

Both Auto and Program modes provide pleasing results; 30x optical zoom lens is incredibly versatile and ready for any situation; Dedicated Video Capture Button is always ready to record Full 1080p HD video; 3.0-inch LCD features a high resolution that is great for composing and viewing images,...

Blotchy images when viewing them at 100%; takes away from sharpness and overall image quality; Burst shooting only captures 5-6 images at a time; Weak pop-up flash unit; Higher noise levels than we were hoping to see; Pricey for the image quality

Nikon Coolpix S9900 offers solid zoom in compact package

The Nikon S9900 is a well-endowed travel zoom camera-it's fun to be able to take such a versatile camera pretty much anywhere. The 30x zoom and macro capabilities make it flexible, and the size makes it portable. Features like the tilting touchscreen and wi-fi make it an enjoyable camera to use.
