I got this unit 07/24/2014. It failed yesterday. 07/21/2017. Just under 3 years. I was using as a backup drive using the WD software that came with the drive. First I tried a compatible power supply from another WD external drive. Power supply numbers were verified on the WD website.

This came with one of the new blue drives installed, which replaces the old green drives. Drives me mad as every 20s there is a buzz on sound despite no data being written. Should have looked for one with a red drive or gotten a different brand.

This hard drive was an excellent price. It is working well, and is simple to use. I have not tried to use any of the special features, as I'm just using it as a backup drive for now.

These Western Digital external drives are great, simple to use (you just connect it to your computer, open it, and then drag and drop your files) and not too noisy. I purchased this product for the benefit of saving and protecting all my file from hard drive failure. Cloud storage is good but when you need to protect a lot of files beyond 5 GB it starts to get realty expensive.
