Bought this for my dad so he could back up his computer. Plugged it into the router so it would function as a make-shift NAS and works perfectly. Has been running for 6 months now without issue and no need to reboot thus far.

This came with one of the new blue drives installed, which replaces the old green drives. Drives me mad as every 20s there is a buzz on sound despite no data being written. Should have looked for one with a red drive or gotten a different brand.

The second my book that I have installed and it works as well as the first one. Good value and great transfer speed. Will buy another as needed

Took only a week to receive my Western Digital data storage device. It arrived nicely packaged and exceeds my expectations so far. Quick, compact and quiet. works with my new windows 10 laptop and gives much greater data storage capacity, totally as advertised. Great value, Tech for Less!

If you need your data storage needs to be taken care for years then this is the perfect product. Works well with my IMac Desktop , pretty easy to configure through desktop utilities. I wasnt able to use the preinstalled software to format, so had to use system software to format it.

Buy a Standard WD black or blue drive and get your own external enclosure if you need a portable HD. These proprietary external enclosures are trash and should not be used for important data.

Almost everything, The drive is encrypted to the sata-usb bridge; If the enclosure fails so does your drive, You cant even take it out and put it in a pc to recover the data; The drive was working fine, Then one day out of nowhere it wasn't getting recognized, But showed in Disk management as 0mb...

WD has refreshed several of their highly popular portable and external storage solutions, including the My Passport, My Passport for Mac, and the My Book, the latter which we will be looking at for this review.

Strangely mixed reviews. Editors of The Wirecutter award the My Book their "Best External Desktop Hard Drive" title partly because of its good record for reliability. In their analysis of Amazon.com reviews, they found a failure rate of under 5 percent.
