Crucial has done an excellent job with the MX100 series, offering up a very budget friendly drive with performance and features that we would expect from drives that cost much more.

Crucial's remit with the MX100 line of SSDs was to design a premium drive without being encumbered with a premium price tag. Our look at the 512GB version, priced at £160, shows that it has succeeded in releasing a budget SSD imbued with high-performance credentials.

We find it hard to list any negative for the MX100. With the performance and feature set, combined with pricing, the choice is obvious, unless you are an enthusiast or professional with a heavy IO workload.

Coming off the back of our look at the 512GB model of Crucial's new MX100 line of drives, our review today focusses on the mid-range 256GB drive which comes in at a level that many users tend to adopt due to the balance between performance and capacity.
