Best ultrawide lens for compact DSLR

I just finished 3 weeks of shooting New Zealand landscapes on a Canon T1i. The 10-22mm ultrawide got a workout - and performed flawlessly. One minor beef is vignetting with stacked filters - and some conventional 77mm CPLs. Easy to solve with an low profile filter.

Light; fast; square; and VERY wide

Costly and requires low profile CP filter

It's a good lens. I was missing something in this focal range and had been looking at it for quite some time. Got a good deal on a used one and I'm very pleased with it. Not as fast as the L series lenses I have. Not as sharp either, especially at apertures wider than f/8, but it's still nice.

Quality glass

Excellent on my 60d. The widest I had before was on my 24-105L, but with the crop factor it could hardly be described as wide. Haven't used it loads, but the shots I have taken and inspected certainly have impressed me so far.

Consistent Output; Durable; Lightweight; Quick Focus; Sharp Focus

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Zoom Lens: Ultra Wide Fun

This was the 3rd lens I purchased after the kit lens. It is the widest lens you can get other than a fisheye(that is made by canon). Sigma make a cheaper one(10-20mm), but I'm really glad I went for the canon, the extra 2mm comes in really handy, it has made all the difference in some instances and...

Dynamic; great build quality; very little distortion

Shadow cast when used in conjunction with built in flash

EF-S 10-22mm

Its optical quality is everything what you can expect from good wide-angle zoom (very few CA@wide-opened, reasonable distortions, sharp etc) I have used this lens with 20D for crowd shots in busy exhibition shows and general views and I can only praise the AF speed, accuracy.

sharp - even wide-opened; wide enough for almost everything (10mm!); fast and precise ring-usm; optical performance

its bit pricy; but quality can't be really cheap anyway

A great video lens

One of the problems with the current level of Canon DSLRs that have video capabilities is their inability to snap to Auto focus as you shoot 'film'. One trick that I have learned is by using this lens as the depth of field at that range is quite wide.

This lens is superb. I own a 40D and needed a wider angle lens than my 24-105 delivered. Vistek as well had it to me within 24hours. This is my third item from Vistek and the service is excellent.

Must have for APS-C Sensors

Great lens for APS-C sensors. I use it mainly for landscape and architecture photography on my 7D. Also works great indoors where space is limited!

Fast auto-focus; Superior build quality; Super-sharp images

fantastic after-sales service

Not only was the product everything that we hoped for (amazingly wide-angle, take care you don't include your toes), but the customer support was awesome. Personal, flexible and very very helpful.
