Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

This is a fantastic upgrade for those with an iPhone 8 or older, and you will notice big changes, and a lot of familiarities, in the switch. It’s also just a downright excellent buy if you want a phone that’ll perform fast and take excellent pictures for years to come.

At $399/£419 this is an excellent buy; Flagship performance should keep this speedy for years; Great photos in daylight situations; Impressive video capabilities; Offers a strong proposition for those who don’t want big phones

Battery life is far from excellent; A new design would’ve been welcome

Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

The iPhone SE 2020 is the best cheap smartphone for most people – its camera, build quality and speed all match more expensive phones. Its smaller screen will also please those who feel left behind by ever-larger devices.

Premium build; Excellent processor; Very impressive camera; Great value; Waterproof

Average battery life; No haptic touch on lock screen; No Night Mode in camera

Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

This is the phone to get if you just want a new iPhone that will last you a few years, but don’t want to pay a lot for it. The iPhone SE 2020 offers ‘decent but not top-end’ performance: a good camera, enough power, a great App Store to plunder and a lighter iPhone than recent models.

Lightweight frame; Low price for iPhone; Powerful chipset

Battery life could be better; Old screen technology; No headphone jack

Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

For a phone that is so affordable this really does deliver - and should give you a phone that will last you for the next 3-4 years without the need to upgrade.

Affordable price but flagship specification; Small size has its charms; Decent camera performance; Water-resistant design

2017 design shows with large top/bottom bezel; Limited battery - and no fast-charger in the box; No Face ID - it's Touch ID only; No Night Mode

Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

The 2020 Apple iPhone SE is a petite powerhouse with no-compromise performance for hundreds of dollars less than other recent iPhones.

Affordable; Fast performance; Small; one-hand-friendly form factor

No camera night mode

Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

Apple iPhone SE (2020): The iPhone SE gets an upgrade at last and it’s now as powerful as the iPhone 11

Impressive single camera; As fast as an iPhone 11; Compact and lightweight

Poor battery life; Only one camera; Small screen

Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

The iPhone SE (2020) comes in at a price tag that in Apple world has to count as a bargain; to be honest, if an Android offered this performance for £419/$399 we'd be calling it superb value for money.

Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

The 2020 iPhone SE packs in a top-spec processor and flagship features at a bargain price, but dated design and bad battery hold it back

Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

The new Apple iPhone SE is indeed one of the most compact smartphones not only within the iPhone ranks but among the Android phones as well. It is thin and lightweight, yet powerful and dependable, with great speakers and a high-quality screen, and impresses with camera performance even if it misses...

Compact and lightweight, water-resistant; Bright and high-contrast screen; Outstanding performance from the A13 chip; Loud stereo speakers; Touch ID is back and we love it; Excellent daylight photos and good low-light ones; Very good video recording capabilities with proficient stabilization.

Apple iPhone SE 256GB Black MXVT2X/A review

Value may be subjective, but it’s hard to argue that the new iPhone SE doesn’t shake up what’s reasonable to expect from a smartphone in 2020. Apple’s most affordable phone is recycling refined to art, a blend of old and new with a barely-believable $400 price tag.

Aggressive pricing; Latest processor and Apple's track-record of updating iOS; Premium metal & glass construction

Single camera is solid but lacks features like Night Mode; Display is small compared to other phones; Budget for a better charger
