iPhone 8 Review: Smart Phone, Dumb Upgrade

You'll need to make your own mind up about this one, since it's a refined smartphone but a lacklustre upgrade. Had Apple included a fast charger and maybe some form of wireless charging pad, it would have matched the 8/10 awarded to last year's iPhone 7 Plus.

iPhone 8 Plus review

The iPhone 8 Plus is a hard phone to recommend. Sure, it's powerful, but so is every other flagship - and with a dated design and huge body, the 8 Plus is lagging behind. Throw in the fact that the wireless charging is slow, the fast wired charging costs you extra, and flagship camera feature Portrait Lighting just doesn't work well enough yet, and the 8 Plus is a tough sell. If you're coming from an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus there's not much to justify the upgrade - though moving from a 6 or 6s is more understandable. And if you're currently an Android user, you'll find phones that are just as fast, with modern designs, for far less money in the Android ecosystem. It's just hard to see the argument for spending £799/$799 on a phone this big in 2017, especially with the smaller-bodied iPhone X now in the line up. This one's for big-handed Apple devotees only.

iPhone 8: Full, in-depth review

While it won’t inspire mania among the enthusiast crowd like the iPhone X will, the iPhone 8 remains a solid package for those happy to play things safe. In an odd change of tune for Apple, the new iPhone 8 can’t really be said to be this year’s “best iPhone ever”. Sure, it’s got a better processor, quality-of-life improvements like wireless charging and an ever-so-slightly refined design. Unfortunately, with the futuristic, face-reading iPhone X just around the corner, the iPhone 8 feels a little overshadowed.
Pros:
  • A11 Bionic Processor
  • Premium feel
Cons:
  • Camera feels mediocore by Apple's standards
  • Expensive

Apple iPhone 8 Plus Review

It's that time of the year again – Apple's firmly established yearly release cycle means today we assess the iPhone 8 Plus. The current flagship, though due to be usurped by the iPhone X very soon, the 8 Plus boasts a new A11 Bionic chip, a dual-camera set up plus a new glass back.
Pros:
  • Great camera(s)
  • Very fast
  • Good display
Cons:
  • Uninspired design looks very dated now
  • Software is very samey
  • Price of 256GB model is right in iPhone X territory

Way before its September announcement and October release date, the iPhone 8 has been the talk of the tech industry pretty much the day after the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus was launched. Such is the state of the smartphone industry that there's barely a moments rest to enjoy the newly released units before...

iPhone 8 Plus

Judging by the to pick up the and iPhone 8 Plus, there isn't a whole lot of hype around Apple's latest plus-sized phone. This isn't because it's a bad phone, but because Apple superseded the iPhone 8 Plus around 10 minutes after it was announced by showing off the OLED-toting, bezel-free .
Pros:
  • Excellent
  • versatile camera
  • Great screen
  • Super speakers
  • Wireless charging is nice to have
Cons:
  • Very heavy
  • Boring design
  • No OIS on secondary camera
  • Would have liked the screen to be OLED

Review: Apple iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

The first place I took the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus was a sticky, late-summer wedding just outside of Austin. It turned out to be the perfect way to stress-test the new devices. The iPhones 8 have new cameras designed to hack it even on a drunken dance floor.
Pros:
  • The world is going camera-first, and this is a kick-ass camera
  • The glass design is a big improvement
  • Wireless charging makes everything better
Cons:
  • There's a lot of bezel on this phone
  • Next to the iPhone X, it already feels outdated
  • The iPhone 8 lets you do so much, but iOS 11 buries too much of it

Apple iPhone 8 Plus Review

The iPhone 8 Plus should really be called the iPhone 7S Plus. Its updates don't warrant a full number bump, but they're welcome improvements that make the 8 Plus another great iPhone. Yes. For iOS users, your next best bet is the upcoming iPhone X .
Pros:
  • Stellar performance
  • Great camera
  • fun Portrait Mode features
  • Wireless charging works well
  • Great display
  • Daylong battery
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Boring
  • dated front design
  • No headphone jack

iPhone 8 Plus review: it's kinda dull, but that's the whole point

If you are of a mind to anthropomorphise technology, you could almost feel sorry for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. They appeared for their moment in the spotlight, all gleaming and shiny with their new glass backs and wireless charging, ready to impress the fevered audience at Apple's Californian HQ...
Pros:
  • Wireless charging
  • improved camera
  • augmented reality
  • the best iPhone to date..
  • but there's a but
Cons:
  • Not enough to set either handset apart from the iPhone 7
  • the 8s feel immediately outmoded by the iPhone X
