Apple iPhone 5s (16GB, Gold) - Excellent review

Summary: Apple's latest high end smartphone should always better than the last one and the iPhone 5s proves that with a better processor, improved camera, useful fingerprint scanner, and more.

An improved sequel to the iPhone 5, which was Apple’s best iPhone to date. Retains the same 4” screen, LTE cellular support, and form factor, while offering three chassis color options and adding a fingerprint sensor.

Despite a larger battery, real-world battery performance too often falls below Apple’s best case estimates, with potentially major problems in cellular calling talk time, and similar drain with cellular data.

Apple iPhone 5s (16GB, Gold) - Excellent review

Fall is Apple season. One year after the iPhone 5, Apple releases its direct successor, the iPhone 5s. In terms of looks, this is not much more than a mere cosmetic update - the 4-inch IPS display and the chassis remain unchanged.

Great performance, 64-bit architecture, Bright, colorful, naturally looking Retina display, Long battery life, Superb build quality, premium materials, Good EarPods (included), Surprisingly precise GPS module, Low emission and power consumption levels

Poor black levels, poor contrast ratio, Resolution could be better, screen size could be larger, Non-extendable internal storage, Expensive

Apple iPhone 5s (16GB, Gold) - Excellent review

Per usual with these “S” revisions, the iPhone 5s is an overall improvement over an already great smartphone. But with fierce competition from the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, and the Nokia 1020, the iPhone is a tough sell to those looking for a bigger screen, flexible operating system, and a new...

Touch ID is very well executed, Impressive camera, Excellent performance, Still the easiest smartphone to use

No real design upgrade, Still waiting for a bigger screen, iOS7 is still playing catch-up, No real improvement to battery life

Apple iPhone 5s (16GB, Gold) - Excellent review

I confess that I use Android smartphones more than the iPhone, but every year when a new iPhone comes out, I get giddy with excitement. There is a simple magic to iOS devices, with a bevy of complex engineering, brilliant software design and killer marketing behind that simplicity.

Still stunning looking, great quality, sharp and colorful display, excellent camera, a fingerprint scanner that's actually easy to use.

A 4" display on a flagship smartphone in 2013 seems so old fashioned.

Apple iPhone 5s (16GB, Gold) - Excellent review

The iPhone 5S is sill a solid phone but this is mostly because of the advantages derived from the simplicity and robustness of the OS. Apple no longer has monopoly over good design or even impressive hardware.

* Great performance, * Impressive camera, * LTE support

Apple iPhone 5s (16GB, Gold) - Excellent review

One of the features that’s been lacking when it comes to teen phones (which arguably should be one of the most important) is security. Teens tend to lose things and since smartphones now contain a large part of someone’s life, ensuring a mobile device can be properly locked down is very important.

Apple iPhone 5s (16GB, Gold) - Excellent review

We’ve come to expect evolution not revolution from the “S” update to Apple’s iPhone range, but the iPhone 5s could be enough to buck that trend. Inside the familiar metal casing beats a new processor, the Apple A7, making the iPhone 5s the first smartphone – and iOS 7 the first smartphone platform –...
