While the initial OnePlus Watch faced criticism as one of the brand's weakest offerings, the OnePlus Watch 2 marks a significant improvement with a refreshed vision, innovative features, and integration of Wear OS. Although it's not flawless, the OnePlus Watch 2 showcases notable enhancements that compensate for its previous shortcomings.

Initial reviews of the OnePlus Watch 2 hardware shows that it will emerge as a standout performer. The robust stainless steel chassis, boasting a substantial 47mm size, commands attention without compromising on comfort. Contrary to expectations, its smooth curves and surprisingly light build ensure a pleasant wear experience throughout the day and night, a stark contrast to the smaller Google Pixel Watch 2. By protecting the face through the incorporation of sapphire glass atop the display we were instilled with confidence, as concerns regarding scratches dissipate effortlessly.

Notably, the accompanying Watch 2 band excels in both form and function. Crafted from "Fluororubber" material, it offers superior comfort compared to traditional silicone, enhancing the overall on-wrist sensation. The band's design harmoniously complements the striped ring encircling the bezel, adding a touch of sophistication. The standard 22mm configuration facilitates effortless interchangeability, enabling users to customize their device effortlessly. When we paired the OnePlus Watch 2 with a brown leather band it exuded elegance, affirming its status as a versatile accessory.

Is OnePlus Watch 2 better than the OnePlus Watch?

Yes. LOADS better.

A significant enhancement introduced with the OnePlus Watch 2 is the adoption of Google's Wear OS as its primary operating system, like Samsung Smart Watches. This transition opens up access to a vast array of apps and services, aligning the device with the functionality offered by leading smartwatches from Google and Samsung. Addressing a key criticism of its predecessor, this shift ensures that the OnePlus Watch 2 is not merely confined to notifications and health tracking, but now boasts enhanced utility and versatility.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset powers the seamless performance of apps and the overall Wear OS 4 experience. OnePlus' software overlay, though present, remains unobtrusive, evoking a sense of familiarity reminiscent of the RTOS software employed in the previous iteration. Notably, users of OnePlus smartphones will find themselves right at home with the interface, yet the overall experience maintains a level of universality that appeals to a broader audience.

What is the battery life like on OnePlus Watch 2?

In short, it's bloody great.  The primary allure of the OnePlus Watch 2 lies in its exceptional battery life, making it a compelling choice for consumers seeking longevity in a smartwatch.

Despite its quirks and drawbacks, the standout feature of the OnePlus Watch 2 is undoubtedly its impressive battery performance. Promoted by OnePlus with a claim of up to 100 hours of usage, this figure stands out prominently in the competitive landscape of smartwatches offering practical functionality. This remarkable endurance is achieved through the innovative hybrid architecture of Wear OS, a pioneering feature introduced with this iteration of the smartwatch. This architecture enables the simultaneous operation of two distinct operating systems: Wear OS for essential functions and a simpler RTOS for managing notifications and background tasks. Surprisingly, this seamless integration remains imperceptible in everyday use, delivering a seamless Wear OS experience that effortlessly extends over multiple days of use, or more, without compromise.

Is the OnePlus Watch 2 really any good?

OnePlus has undoubtedly stepped up their game with the OnePlus Watch 2. The integration of Wear OS elevates it to the realm of a true smartwatch, a significant improvement over its predecessor.

While I wouldn't go as far as to call the OnePlus Watch 2 flawless or the absolute best Wear OS smartwatch available, it undeniably stands out as an excellent product worthy of consideration by virtually anyone in the market. Rarely have I seen a sequel product demonstrate such vast improvements over its predecessor. OnePlus deserves commendation for the Watch 2, and I'm eager to witness its continued evolution over time.
