Super Mario Odyssey review: controlling a sentient hat has never been so fun
I n life, a few things are inevitable: death, taxes and the continual kidnapping of Princess Peach. But after more than 30 years of at least one new Mario adventure per Nintendo console, it helps to have a feature that differentiates the latest from the last.

Super Mario Odyssey Review – Beyond My Wildest Imagination
Super Mario 64 was one of the first games that I truly got into growing up. It taught me a sense of discovery and I've no doubt put in 100s of hours into the game over the years and still manage to discover things that I've never seen before.

Super Mario Odyssey Review - An Adventure of a Lifetime
There was something magical that happened to me during my time with Super Mario Odyssey that is hard to put into words. As I journeyed across the planet to the different kingdoms that were filled with secrets to uncover, creatures and objects to possess with Cappy, my magical hat, and of course the...

Super Mario Odyssey Review
The unveiling of Super Mario Odyssey was accompanied by the jarring image of Mario cavorting with realistically-proportioned humans in an obvious stand-in for New York City. For many, this triggered uncomfortable flashbacks of Sonic striking up romantic relationships with disturbingly lifelike...
Pros:
- New Donk City
Cons:
- The Broodals

When Nintendo announced the Switch, all eyes were on the Mario game unveiled during the keynote. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was an excellent launch title, one that gave the Nintendo Switch a big early boost, but Mario is Nintendo's biggest IP and everyone wanted to see what Nintendo...

Super Mario Odyssey Review
With the Nintendo Switch riding high on the success and popularity of games like Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2, and with the way that developers are starting to flock to the platform, all it's missing is one more big hit to put the icing on the (wedding) cake.
Pros:
- Cappy adds a lot to Mario's skillset
- Exploring each new freeform open world kingdom
- Capturing other beings and objects adds huge variety
- So many wonderful homages
- Photo mode is a lot of fun
Cons:
- Peach is the helpless damsel once again
- Some kingdoms look odd for a Mario game
- Controls can be fiddly and complex for precision platforming
- though Assist Mode and co-op will help beginners

"A return to form." "A reinvention." There are lots of clichés we fall back on when describing a fresh game in a long-running series. The truth is, Nintendo has constantly reinvented the idea of a 3D Mario game, relentlessly pushing the franchise forward with each release.

Super Mario Odyssey review (NS)
Super Mario Odyssey is arguably the ideal showpiece for the Nintendo Switch hardware. Whenever I play it, I start to believe that if there's anything truly important a game must accomplish during this console generation, the Switch platform and capable software developers can deliver it in spite of...

Super Mario Odyssey
I am thankful I had enough money to purchase Super Mario Odyssey after the failures of the PR and Marketing for Nintendo. Hopefully you read my preview of Super Mario Odyssey that has been online since the end of November.

Review: Super Mario Odyssey
Mario has never been slicker to control ... it can become a thing of pure joy just to hurtle Mario around levels exploring and finding power moons at your own pace It is fair to say that the Nintendo Switch's first seven months have been better than anyone expected.
Pros:
- It's classic Mario
- Mario's never controlled better
- Beautiful worlds
- Incredible title song
- A genuinely great game
Cons:
- Doesn't live up to previous Mario greats
- Some open world aspects don't work as well as they should
- Boring story
- even for a Mario game
- Too easy to reach the credits
- Missing that Nintendo magic and soul
