Sony's own 200-600mm G is certainly the more attractive choice when reach is everything, but such lenses are heavy, big and 200mm at the short end...
Good working glass
I have had this lens for several months and came from lots of years shooting with Canon. I loved my Canon 100-400. This lens does everything the Canon did and is easier to shoot. I like the balance, the tripod shoe is 100% better. The color and sharpness is perfect.
Why Buy the 70-200 GM When You Can Have the 100-400GM
Excellent build quality. High quality construction. Not as heavy as I thought it would be, which is good. Has three assignable buttons one can use in portrait/landscape orientations. Detachable foot.
Excellent lens
I use with a7rii and have added 1.4xs converter. Reducing to APC delivers as much as 896mm focal length at f8. Autofocus can still cope and I have good results. The lens is even manageable hand held. Do not be greedy and go for 2xs converter unless you have the a9.

Fast and sharp lens for action shots
