Bought to capture aurora borealis live video and its great up to 50k iso ( gives 2 to 3 stops more than my canon 6d ) beyond that dissapointing with red/magenta corners/edges apparently a known issue with the A7S sensor. Not much to do about it but to crop, or stay away from the highest ISOs.

The Sony a7S is an interesting departure for a camera company: a model where possibly more of the emphasis during the design process has been placed on video capture, rather than stills. This is made easier to see by the existence of its sibling models.

Changing batteries all the time

If you're coming from a Canon, you'll know the ergonomics are terrible on this camera, the ease of use is not so good, but there are Youtube vids to help, definitely look for an external battery source and a cage to help with ergonomics.

The Sony A7R is a great camera, make no mistake about that. To get a full frame sensor into such a small package is quite a feat of engineering. Canon and Nikon take note! and catch up!
