Sonos Move - Black MOVE1AU1BLK review

The Sonos Move is an excellent, smart, great-sounding speaker that is truly wireless. Packing wifi and Bluetooth, a 10-hour battery, easy charging, a durable case, weather resistance and loud, punchy sound, you could take this portable powerhouse practically anywhere.

Pros: wifi and Bluetooth; IP56 weather resistance; durable; 10-hour battery (can be replaced); USB-C; Alexa or Google Assistant; very wide music service compatibility; Spotify Connect; AirPlay 2; Sonos multi-room audio; long expected support life

Cons: heavy; expensive; only available in black; no 3.5mm line-in; cannot be used as part of Sonos 5.1 system

Sonos Move - Black MOVE1AU1BLK review

In a move that simultaneously felt like a very natural evolution of their product line as well as (finally?) answering every unrequited request ever made of the company, Sonos today announced Sonos Move , a portable, battery-powered, water resistant, weatherproof, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi speaker.

Sonos Move review: Hefty portable speaker brings big Sonos sound to the outdoors

When you first encounter the Move, Sonos' first portable speaker, be prepared for something big. At 9.44 inches tall and 6.6 pounds (3 kg), it's significantly larger than the Sonos One and also costs about twice as much at $400 (£399, AU$649). When most people think portable, they think small, but the Move has some serious heft. At first blush it looks almost too nice to be an outdoor speaker.

If you can live with its price and size, the Sonos Move is an excellent portable wireless speaker that expands the play area of your Sonos system.

A solid portable speaker for an existing Sonos system; Sturdy, water-resistant, dustproof and voice-enabled (on a Wi-Fi network) with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa; Up to 10 hours of playback; Autotuning system calibrates to any environment; The battery is replaceable.

Somewhat expensive, the Move is big and hefty for a portable speaker; Battery life can be adversely impacted by how you use it.

Sonos Move (2019) review

If you’re after a Sonos that’ll work over Bluetooth or one that you can pick up and carry around your house, the Move is exactly that.

Even if the portability of the Move ends up a little undercut by the weight involved, the Sonos Move still up to most of its potential.

Portability; Seamless to integrate; Great audio quality;

Expensive; Uneven design; Charger cradle feels cheap;

Sonos Move - Black MOVE1AU1BLK review

Sonos Move Review

Sonos is best known for popularizing multi-room audio, and until now, none of those "rooms" have included your back patio. The Sonos Move shifts this paradigm. At $399, the Move is far from cheap, but it delivers powerful audio in a battery-powered, outdoor-friendly design. It's quite large for a portable speaker, but its size allows it to deliver some serious bass depth. Its sculpted, bass-forward sound signature may not appeal to audio purists, but there's no denying the Move's power, quality, and thoughtful design. It's a step in a new direction for Sonos, and we think it's the right one.Design Measuring 9.5 by 6.3 by 5.0 inches (HWD), the slightly rounded Move has an eggshell-like finish in black or white. Its IP56 rating means it can handle limited dust exposure, as well as water projected from any direction, though it shouldn't be submerged. In other words, poolside splashes or rain won't harm the speaker, and it can get a little dirty, too. It's also built to withstand inte...

The Sonos Move is a powerful multi-room smart speaker with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control, as well as a durable, battery-powered design you can use anywhere.

Powerful audio with rich bass depth and bright highs; Portable, dust- and water-resistant build; Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control

Expensive; Heavy; Sculpted, mono sound signature not for everyone
