Quality headphones...

I've been waiting for a while to get new headphones after I lost my Shure SE530PTHs earphones and I finally decided to jump in when I saw Shure was coming out with some new cans. They don't sound quite as good as the 530s did, but these are high quality headphones that would be hard to beat.

The SRH-840, top of Shure's first line of headphones, is perhaps the best bargain in mid-level cans out there today. With an MSRP of $199, and a street price significantly lower, it can hang with cans costing three or four times as much.

Shure?SRH840

I paid $200. I have owned a few headphones in my life, including top of the line Sennheisers, which I paid ~$500 for (2005). I love headphones. For $200 I consider these value priced. When compared to the market as a whole, its just not a lot of money, especially when you are aiming for the best.

Shure SRH 840

Shure has a corner on the market for "almost-consumer" in-ear phones thanks to a very thorough distribution network. Now the manufacturer is aiming at the market for "almost-monitoring" headphones.

Well-distinguished tones; Relatively neutral reproduction; despite an emphasis on the midrange

Ear cups are a little small; We've heard better soundstage

Great Price/Performance

J&R has a great price[...]. Happy to do business with them once again. The overall performance of this headphone rivals anything double the price. And in most cases surpasses that when talking about closed, as well as every open HP I have had the chance to demo.

Clear Sound; Compact; Easy To Use; Versatile

Bulky/Heavy

Shure SRH840

Want a pair of headphones that sound good but don't want to pay too much money? The smart money is on professional headphones. Not only are you getting great sound for the cash, but the headphones are designed to last forever.

Excellent build quality; Detailed sound; Replacement ear cups and detachable cord

Uncomfortable for big ears; Competitive pro models offer better value for money

Shure SRH840 review: Shure SRH840

Want a pair of headphones that sound good but don't want to pay too much money? The smart money is on professional headphones. Not only are you getting great sound for the cash, but the headphones are designed to last forever. While they usually look uglier than consumer models, who will care if you're using them at home?

The Shure SRH840 is an excellent pair of headphones that should outlast and outperform any equivalently-priced consumer model.

Excellent build quality; Detailed sound; Replacement ear cups and detachable cord.

Uncomfortable for big ears; Competitive pro models offer better value for money.
