Shure SRH840

Shure has been one of the kings of in-ear headphones for years, but it's a relative newcomer to high-quality studio headphones. The Shure SRH840 are one rung down from the top-end SRH940 closed-back headphones, and sell for around £130.

Excellent clarity; Warmth adds sonic enjoyment; Great value

Not light; Large; Some design quirks

Shure SRH 840

Shure has a corner on the market for "almost-consumer" in-ear phones thanks to a very thorough distribution network. Now the manufacturer is aiming at the market for "almost-monitoring" headphones.

Well-distinguished tones; Relatively neutral reproduction; despite an emphasis on the midrange

Ear cups are a little small; We've heard better soundstage

Shure SRH840

Want a pair of headphones that sound good but don't want to pay too much money? The smart money is on professional headphones. Not only are you getting great sound for the cash, but the headphones are designed to last forever.

Excellent build quality; Detailed sound; Replacement ear cups and detachable cord

Uncomfortable for big ears; Competitive pro models offer better value for money

Shure SRH840

I have had 2 pairs and both have stopped working, these aren't professional headphones and I'd stay away from them if you want to keep them longer than a year of professional use.

Shure SRH840 Professional Monitoring Headphones

I was looking for a pair of over-the-ear cans for use at work. I wanted good sound and some isolation -- both incoming, to enjoy the music more, and outgoing, so as not to disturb others. In looking at the reviews here and on other Web sites, I was drawn to the SRH840.

Great closed-design, neutral headphones

These headphones are pretty great. They're very clearly intended to be used as monitoring headphones, which is basically what Shure advertises them as. They have a very neutral sound to them, and they don't try to make the music overly musical like my Grado 325is do or exaggerate the sound stage...

Great Price/Performance

J&R has a great price[...]. Happy to do business with them once again. The overall performance of this headphone rivals anything double the price. And in most cases surpasses that when talking about closed, as well as every open HP I have had the chance to demo.

Clear Sound; Compact; Easy To Use; Versatile

"High end Sound...without a high end Price!"

Smooth lows, punchy midrange, and highs end transients..these headphones have everything critical listener needs who doesn't want to be fooled by his monitors or room...I know everyone sees those young producers wearing those cosmetic headphones made by a rapper, but they are only fool's gold with...

I bought the SRH840 a few years ago and have loved them ever since. They sound amazing and are very comfortable to wear. I have used them running live sound and they are a bit bulky especially if you are constantly taking them on and off. I mainly use them at home. Highly recommend them!
