Great camera, but a few comprimises

Let me start by saying I absolutely love this camera but that isn't to say that there are not some compromises. There are several places on the internet that you can get an in-depth review, download sample files, etc… so I am not going to do that.

Very Impressive

Others have detailed this camera and all it's features so I won't repeat all that. I have been looking for the ultimate travel camera and I believe this is the one. I need a fast lens since I rarely use a flash and I very much enjoy all the "analog" controls on the outside of the camera for quick...

Owned camera about 10 degree. Bought this as a replacement for my older LX3 I was very pleased with. Prior to this purchase had the course, however, emerged some competitors in the market for compact SLR, which meant that the choice was between this and Sony's RX-100 III.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 Review: Awesome 4K Video, Retro Design

A retro design, 4K video and sharp photos make the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 a fantastic portable camera.

Beautiful and durable retro design; supersharp 4K video; quick autofocus; great color and detail in photos; solid low-light performance; superclear electronic viewfinder

Rear LCD is not a touch screen; no external mic jack; lacks built-in flash

There's no doubting the LX100 is great, but is it the best compact camera ever

Travel Buddy

"I took this camera on my 3 week trip to Asia. It worked fantastically, especially if you take the time to get to know its features and customize the buttons/dials to your liking. Very discreet for street photography and sharp for the most part.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 Review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 ($899.99) is an extremely ambitious camera, and a radical update to the LX models like the LX7 ($699.95 at Amazon) that came before it. The LX100 ups the sensor size to match those in Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, and its wide-aperture provides more control over depth of field than you'd expect from a compact camera. It's a solid performer, but not without some drawbacks. If you put an emphasis on video its 4K capture mode is appealing, but we still recommend our Editors' Choice Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III ($598.00 at Amazon) to photographers in the market for a high-quality, pocketable compact camera. Design and FeaturesWe're classifying the LX100 ($597.99 at Amazon)  as a compact camera, although it may be a bit too large to comfortably fit into some pockets. At 2.6 by 4.5 by 2.2 inches (HWD) the LX100's body is a bit larger all around than the RX100 III (2.3 by 4 by 1.6 inches, 10.2 ounces), and it's heavier at 13.9 ounces. The cameras ...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 is an ambitious compact camera with a big sensor, a wide-aperture lens, and 4K video recording, but it falls just short of top honors.

Large image sensor; Wide aperture zoom lens; Sharp EVF; Top-notch high ISO performance; Speedy autofocus; 11.3fps burst shooting; Excellent control layout; 4K video capture with 4K photo mode; Integrated Wi-Fi; Hot shoe

Expensive; Bulky; Overactive video autofocus; Sensor resolution limits detail; No built-in flash; Fixed LCD doesn't support touch input; Lacks microphone input

Panasonic Lumix LX100

Panasonic retakes the lead in the advanced compact competition with its LX100. Really good photo and video quality, a great set of features and (for the most part) class-leading performance, result in one of my favorite compact cameras ever.

The Panasonic LX100 delivers really good photo and video quality; a great set of features; and class-leading performance

It's got a fixed LCD and the lens really needs a hood to minimize flare

As you can see, that's a pretty extensive list but, as it turns out, it's only a list of the headline specifications of the camera. The LX100 also includes a time-lapse function, the ability to create in-camera stop motion videos and a host of other specialist features.

Excellent stills image quality - especially in Raw; Unsurpassed combination of large sensor and bright lens; Impressive and usable video capabilities; Comprehensive and well-designed direct controls (with good customization options; Fast; responsive behavior; Classic looks and handling provide...

JPEG noise reduction and sharpening are rather crude at low ISOs; Lens range can be limiting; 12MP may not be enough for some users; Manually positioning an AF point is awkward (and workaround limits customization choices; Focus peaking often too subtle to see; Separate clip-on flash simply...
