Very solid camera for all around needs

A bit of my background: I am not a professional photographer and do not have experience with wide variety of gear. Photography is my hobby and 90 percent of it is landscape. To give you an idea check my instagram: place_of_adventures. Until recently I owned Nikon D5500 and Sigma 18-35mm.

Panasonic Lumix GX9 review

In many ways, the Lumix GX9 takes two steps forward over the GX8, but one step (maybe half a step) back. The removal of the optical low-pass filter means Lumix GX9 delivers excellent detail, with images looking that bit sharper than those from the GX8, while the smaller form factor compared to its...

Compact design; 4K video and 4K Photo modes; Hybrid stabilization system; Responsive touchscreen; Built-in flash; Fast focusing speeds in Single AF

AF selection fiddly; Awkward rear control dial; 16:9 aspect ratio viewfinder; Body isn't weather-sealed

Panasonic GX9

With the Lumix GX9, Panasonic has listened to its users and made a rangefinder-style mirrorless camera that many will see as a true successor to the much-loved . It's based on the cheaper but adds many of the best bits of the , while including all of the company's latest technology.

Compact design is more portable than SLR-styled competitors; In-body stabilisation gives sharper results with every lens; Quiet shutter allows discreet shooting; Excellent Bluetooth and Wi-Fi smartphone connectivity

Default control setup is awkward for viewfinder shooting; 16:9 viewfinder is a poor match to sensor; Control dials are under-utilised

Great little camera

I have had my Lumix GX9 for 6 months now, and have found it to be a very capable camera in a nice compact but sturdy body that is capable of taking some very high quality images which compare well against ones taken with more expensive cameras with larger sensors.

Compact size; Great Features; Great Picture Quality; Simple Controls; Versatile; customizable operation; well built

Flip up viewfinder; Poor Battery Life

Love it or hate it, smartphone cameras have been nothing short of a game-changer for travel cameras like Panasonic's flagship GX range. The gulf between the things you can capture with a full-frame shooter and the things you can shoot with Google Pixel is large enough to justify owning both.

Good image quality; Lots of control

Not weatherproof; A lot of indirect costs (lenses; etc

Panasonic Lumix GX9 review

The GX9 is a great little camera that ticks a lot of boxes for anyone looking for a travel and street photography camera. It's reasonably priced (particularly if you go for the free lens pre-order offer) and image quality is very good, as long as you don't like to do most of your photography in low light situations. The tilting screen, tilting viewfinder and 4K Photo functionality round-out a generous set of features, while the extended battery life feature is handy if you're planning to take it out to the wilderness. If stills photography is your priority, you might be better off with an APS-C camera like the Fujifilm X-Pro2, while dial-loving pros looking for a dinky second camera might be more tempted by the Canon G1X Mark III. But otherwise this all-rounder is a fine new option on the very compact system camera menu.

Small, sleek styling; Handy tilting monitor and viewfinder; 4K video;

Small sensor; Loss of detail in low light ; Screen doesn’t face forwards ;

Before we really get into the Lumix DC-GX9, let's establish where it sits in Panasonic's lineup. Back in 2013, the GX7 pioneered the tilting EVF. Then Panasonic took the series upmarket with the GX8, and introduced a new lower-tier GX85 / GX80 / GX7 Mark II to go with it.

Street photographers; travel photographers who don't mind carrying an extra battery with them; enthusiasts that enjoy abundant controls and those who want great JPEGs right out of the camera

Hardcore landscape and sports shooters that may need greater dynamic range; resolution and burst speeds
