Oppo has delivered a well-rounded and exciting new flagship that doesn't do as you might expect. It has the potential to take on some serious camera phone contenders too.

The wow factor starts from first impressions. The "true" full screen design, as Oppo calls it, catches the eye with its simplicity, sans any ugly notch or even pinhole camera cutouts.

The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is a strong option for smartphone shutterbugs and a solid phone for everyone else.

That's a small blot, though, on what is otherwise an excellent all-round smartphone. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom can't compete head to head with the superb Huawei P30 Pro on outright camera quality, and its software installation is bloated with unnecessary extras, but we still prefer it to the OnePlus 7...

Oppo may not be the best-known smartphone brand in the UK and Europe, but the Chinese company was number five in IDC's latest ( Q2 2019 ) tally of worldwide shipments, behind Xiaomi, Apple, Huawei and Samsung.

A Huawei P30 Pro with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will cost you £899, and while Oppo's Reno 10x Zoom can't quite match the P30 on photography, it gets pretty close -- while offering excellent value for money at £700 for the 8GB/256GB model.

If you don't mind the lack of storage options, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom provides great cameras, strong performance, and a simple but distinctive design inside and out.

The Reno 10x Zoom the is the first Oppo device we’ve reviewed here at AnandTech, and frankly I wasn’t too sure what to expect going into this review. The one aspect where the Reno 10x does stand out in is its design.
