Epson FastFoto FF-680W

It's slower at photo scanning than the FastFoto FF-640, but it's far more versatile, because it is much better at document scanning, which means you'll still have plenty of use for it once you've scanned through all your shoeboxes of old snaps.

Quickly scans stacks of photo prints; Decent as a document scanner; Scans to searchable PDF; Solid OCR performance

Somewhat pricey; Slower at photo scanning than its predecessor

Epson FastFoto FF-680W Review

Rejoice! You won't have to scan photo prints one by one anymore, or risk having them ripped in your scanner's document feeder. The Epson FastFoto FF-680W ($599.99) is a worthy successor to the Epson FastFoto FF-640, which was the first sheet-feed scanner that could quickly scan a stack of photos with a minimal chance of them getting torn, creased, or otherwise damaged. Geared largely toward people who want to digitize and archive their photo-print collections (think shoeboxes full of snapshots), the FastFoto FF-680W does considerably better at scanning documents than the FastFoto FF-640. This makes it a much more versatile home scanner, one that won't become irrelevant once you've completed scanning your snapshot collection. It also makes it a PCMag Editors' Choice for photo-centric household scanners. A Photo-Happy Sheet-Feed Scanner Its photo wizardry notwithstanding, the matte-black FastFoto FF-680W looks like a typical desktop document scanner. It measures 6.9 by 11.7 by 6.7 ...

The Epson FastFoto FF-680W is a sheet-feed desktop scanner that excels at scanning stacks of snapshots while doing a credible job at document scanning.

Quickly scans stacks of photo prints; Decent as a document scanner; Scans to searchable PDF; Solid OCR performance

Somewhat pricey; Slower at photo scanning than its predecessor

So Easy to Use.

This product is exactly what is says a simple, multi photo photo scanner. It is easy to install and brings up old, dark photo's so well - gives you the choice of keeping the original scan, the adjusted scan or both. Easy file naming system and works with very small old photo's and ones up to A4 size. This was exactly what I needed for my 100's of old photo's.

Great product

Love that you can scan up to 30 prints in one go and the machine automatically improves them. It then gives you the choice to keep either or both copies. Only thing I am having a problem with is doing mulitple copies of really small, old photo's.

Very good but not perfect.

If you have a lot of photos to scan, and I do mean a LOT, then I can recommend this scanner. It can do an amazingly fast job, but it's not without some issues. The scanner sensor area can get contaminated from the photos sliding past it, so it's important to inspect the scans say every 50-100 photos to make sure there are no lines on them, or clean the sensor area frequently, which is thankfully very easy. Dark areas of the photos can appear quite noisy or grainy compared to the results from my old Canon flatbed scanner. The automatic photo enhancement functions get it wrong a lot. Results can be too bright, missing obvious red eyes or applying red eye fixes to the skin surrounding the eyes, leaving obvious dark spots where there should be none. Auto rotation causes more problems than it fixes but rotating the photos afterwards is very easy. Fortunately when applying any auto enhancements the scanner can be set to produce an unaltered copy too so you can select which photo version you ...

Review of the Epson FastFoto FF-680W

Let's face it. The process of digitizing photos is mind-numbingly slow: the laying of each photo on the scanner and waiting the agonizing minutes for each to be scanned, then saving each photo.

This Scanner Rocks!

I had high Hope's for this scanner and I was not disappointed. I cannot recommend this scanner enough. Easy setup (on my iMac) and simple operation. I scanned 1400 family photos this weekend. I have thousands more to go and look forward to finishing a project that I had been sitting on for years.

Great photo scanner/editor

This is a great photo scanner, even will do thick pictures (need to change settings) just read the instructions. The auto enhancement feature works well but I like to do extra touch ups in light room. Make sure to clean and blow out the unit per instructions.

Easy to Use; Easy to Set Up; Fast; Good Value; Performance; Quality

Good company, initial impressions okay

I bought the FF-680W to replace an Epson Workforce DS-410 that had an internal part break. I initially bought another brand scanner that is highly rated, but found it was too picky about what I could scan. My DS-410 would scan just about anything, including folded documents, with no problems.

Fast but the quality is poorer than a 1990's Scanner

I purchased this scanner after many glowing reviews for the sole purpose of scanning and archiving my prints. Even on the best quality scan settings the output from the scanner introduces artifacts that make areas of the photo look grainy or blotchy.
