Doom has moved on. id Software's new take on its old classic once again straddles a fault-line between the partly colonised surface of Mars and a rollicking Death Metal album cover version of Hell, all goat motifs and bubbling plumes of gore.

Most enjoyable shooter campaign I've played in ages. Fast, fluid gameplay and fantastic shooting and melee mechanics. Levels are dripping with atmosphere, and are each quite large and full of secrets to find.

Doom struggles somewhat to finish what it starts, and for a franchise that practically created what we understand as shooter multiplayer 22 years ago, its largely flavorless multiplayer is surprising.

If heavy metal music had a physical representation in videogame form it would be DOOM. If that statement excites you then this game is for you. If you are looking for a fantastic multiplayer experience I would suggest you look elsewhere.

Doom is back on next-gen consoles and it's definitely a worthy reboot in every sense!

Shoot first, ask questions later… that's something you know if you played past Doom games, and this one shows respect and continues with the tradition. Doom was one of the fathers of the first-person shooter genre and just by listening to the name, the PC game from 1993 comes to my mind.
