DJI OM 4 156732 review

The DJI OM 4 is a solid and inexpensive three-axis gimbal with all-day battery life, but some of its most interesting features may not work on your phone.

Affordable; Excellent battery life; Magnetic clamp makes it easy to switch between phones

Android and iOS apps offer inconsistent performance; Clamp doesn’t play well with volume rockers on some phones; Battery can't be removed or replaced

DJI OM 4 156732 review

The DJI OM4 improves upon the best-selling Osmo Mobile 3 smartphone gimbal in meaningful ways. Its new magnetic mounting system delivers exceptional convenience, and the improved motor copes with heat much better than its predecessor, while also delivering noticeably extended range.

Compact with great performance; Convenient; secure magnetic clamp; Excellent battery life

Pricier than the Osmo Mobile 3; Ring mount only compatible with plastic phones; No marked stabilization improvements

DJI OM 4 Review

DJI is likely one of the first names that comes to mind when you think of drones, but in pro video circles, the company's line of Ronin camera stabilizers are just as renowned. Smartphone content creators can enjoy the same stabilization features, in a smaller, more affordable package, with the DJI OM 4 ($150), an updated (and rebranded) edition of the previous-generation Osmo Mobile 3. The OM 4 is a very good basic gimbal, especially if you're an iPhone user. It handles all the basics with ease, though advanced features are hit or miss, and depending on your smartphone, might not be available at all.Design  The OM 4 is a powered three-axis gimbal with a handheld pistol-grip style design. Construction quality is quite good—the body is sturdy polycarbonate with a rubberized mount. It's a little heavier than the Osmo Mobile 3 at about a pound, but a bit more compact overall. It measures 7.0 by 4.0 by 2.8 inches (HWD) when folded for transport. In order to slim the design down from t...

DJI OM 4 156732 review

This smartphone gimbal could help improve and smooth anyone's smartphone videography. It can struggle with faster moving subjects, but is otherwise a super performer that's easy to use and has loads of modes. We like it a lot.

Magnetic snap-on system is convenient; Less port and button obstruction than previous models; Easy to use; Relatively affordable

Some shooting modes are hard to get good results with; ActiveTrack subject-tracking can be inconsistent

DJI OM 4 156732 review

The DJI OM 4 offers a way to capture smooth cinematic video without holding your smartphone completely hostage. Magnets attach your phone to the gimbal arm, which features upgraded 3-axis motors and a neat, though gimmicky Dolly Zoom mode.

Convenient magnetic design; Motors are stronger than OM3; Doesn't run hot

Won't work with all phone cases; DJI Mimo app has limitations; Dynamic Zoom a bit of a gimmick

DJI OM 4 review

If you don’t mind clamping your phone down every time you come to attach it to your gimbal, then the £99 Osmo Mobile 3 is still the best value option on the scene - even with its last-gen motor which can get hot under the collar. That said, if you love convenience and want the best out there, stump up an extra £40, and bag yourself a tripod stand and a few accessories along with your gimbal and enjoy the OM 4’s collapsible, compact, detachable steady-cam excellence.

Most convenient gimbal around; Excellent battery life; Solid build quality;

Costs more than the Osmo Mobile 3; Core performance similar to predecessor; Ring mount only works with plastic phones;

DJI Osmo Mobile 4: An excellent smartphone gimbal that is capable of superb results but it is on the expensive side

Solid stabilisation; Excellent magnetic mount; Useful app features

Controls can be confusing at first; Somewhat limited manual app controls; More expensive than its predecessor

DJI OM 4 156732 review

“The DJI OM 4 is beginner-friendly, yet includes some advanced-looking camera moves.”

Easy to use; Quick magnetic attachment; Pre-programmed moves in Stories; Good stabilization; Advanced app tools

Some modes are hidden; Follow mode doesn't use full pan range
