Tempting with mic jack + clean HDMI for occasional lecture recording and faster RAW shooting I have finally upgraded from my favorite pocket camera to it's 3rd generation. Here are my observations after couple of days.

When I can't take my DSLR, I take this. Great lens & image quality

The PowerShot G7 X Mark III faces some strong competition from the likes of Sony and Panasonic, but with a longer-than-usual lens, great handling and a whole suite of niceties for videographers, it succeeds in offering enough to warrant its place in a populated section of the market.

Great handling and build quality; Effective face detection; Responsive and clear touchscreen; Mic port is a very nice touch; Very effective image stabilization; Nice colors in images

No hotshoe for external mics; No built-in viewfinder; Slightly aggressive noise reduction; AF system a little dated; Overexposure frequently occurs

Canon's pocket-sized Powershot is now better for video, better in low light and even better for blogging...

4K video with no crop; Flip up screen for vlogging; Live streaming capability

No eyelevel viewfinder; Quite pricey

Overal good but it has overheating issues when shooting in 4k and auto focus does't work very well

That's not to say the G7 X Mark III is a poor choice. However, if buying the G5 X Mark II is too much of a stretch for your budget, think about saving a bit more and opting for older G7 X Mark II instead.
