I bought mine about 10 years ago. It's excellent for extreme close-ups of small insects, fungi etc.and could have been designed for stacking. (I do a lot of stacking and it's my main lens.)

Canon's all-manual 65mm is a 1-5x prime. This means that the magnification is 5x that of any other lens in test . In reality it's almost impossible to use handheld at its minimum focusing distance, as the depth-of-field is so incredibly shallow and, being so close to the subject, the lens obstructs...

I use this lens for high magnification macro photography. The lens has the capability to achieve 5x magnification and is wholly dedicated to the macro photographer; it no other function. The quality of the output is superb.

Very impressive lens! It is not an easy piece to use but I'm enjoying the results A macro flash is very important.

If you love macro photography, this lens takes it to another level. There is an initial learning curve with it, but once mastered it truely opens the door to insane macro ability. Lighting has been an issue, at the 5x magnification, due to the shallow distance from the object.

This is a unique lens not available from other manufacturers. It is for macro photography only, as its minimum resolution is 1:1 and it goes up to 5:1! The depth of focus is so shallow that it is hard to see to focus (no auto focus) without bright light. A macro flash system is virtually mandatory.
