The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM Lens is a middle child in the very popular Canon L Series 70-200mm family. The 70-200mm L lens family shows many genetic similarities aside from their obvious focal length range similarity.
Typical for most designated Canon L-grade (Luxury) lenses it provides an excellent build quality based on an tightly assembled metal body and smoothly operating zoom and focus control rings. The physical length remains constant regardless of the zoom or focus action.
Gary Wolstenholme reviews the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM lens. Although lacking stabilisation, is it an ideal alternative for those on a tighter budget?
Good value; Excellent Build Quality; Very good sharpness in the centre of the frame; Fast focusing
Loss of sharpness towards the edges of the frame; Falloff of illumination towards the corners at 200mm
awesome lens. Great for portraits and landscape. The glass is far superior to Tamron's. Worth the extra money
Easy To Use; Improves Performance; Quality Construction
Heavy
I bought this on 3/22/19 and returned it on 4/2/19. I shoot bird pictures and them in flight and the Lens just did not make the mark for me. Most all my pictures were blurred, very poor quality. I shoot with the 70-300 f4-5.6 IS II USM, the pictures are very sharped.
Don't worry that it's not the mark II of this lens. Even without the image stabilization, this is easily the best lens I've ever had the pleasure in owning. I picked up this lens to take sports photographs for my old high school in the beginning of the 2017-18 school year.
I didn't know what to expect with this lens after reading the reviews. I am happy with its performance and quality. I have used it handheld with excellent results and performance. Anyone looking for a lens that does it all will love this lens.
wildlife; architecture; weddings
Not much to say other than It's an awesome lens. I use it for family portraits and for the kids sports events. Crisp clear pictures in low lights. It's my favorite lens.
It's great for portraits as well as sports events..
A bit heavy
Still learning the new lens. It is a larger heavier lens but it what I expected. It shoots at a uniform 2.8 no matter the zoom which will make it perfect for work in low light situations like weddings and in shooting sports like high school football on poorly lighted fields and in basketball in high...
Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Strong Construction
