AMAZON ECHO SHOW 10 B084NTF5ZY review

Amazon’s Echo Show 10 has a swiveling base that can rotate automatically to follow you, which is useful but doesn’t quite justify its higher price tag compared to the Echo Show 8..

AMAZON ECHO SHOW 10 B084NTF5ZY review

The Amazon Echo Show 10 sets a new high bar for Echo devices, with a fantastic screen, intelligent motion controls, and an ever-improving Alexa on board. It comes with a few caveats, but this is clearly one of the most advanced smart displays on the market.

It follows you around, Alexa keeps getting better, Excellent sound quality

Very Amazon-centric, Design is a little awkward, Needs more video apps

Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) Review

Smart displays are usually stationary screens. They have microphones and speakers, and you can talk to them and they answer back, but they otherwise just stay still. Their screens point in one direction, and if you want them to point somewhere else, you have to move them yourself. That isn’t the case with the third-generation $249.99 Amazon Echo Show 10, which has a motorized base that lets its 10.1-inch screen rotate to face you, wherever you are in the room. It's a surprising jump forward in usability, as you no longer have to stay in one place to see the display or make a video call. It makes for a significant increase in price over the $129.99 Echo Show 8, though you're also getting a larger screen and more powerful sound.An Innovative New Design Smart displays are fundamentally tablets attached to speakers, and the Echo Show 10 really embraces this concept: It looks like a large Fire tablet attached to a smaller version of an Echo Studio speaker. The third-generation Amazon Echo Show 10 smart display delivers powerful audio and adds a motorized base that lets the screen and camera rotate as you move around.

Motorized screen automatically rotates to track you; Loud, crisp sound; Built-in Zigbee hub for smart home device control; Useful home security features

Motion tracking can occasionally feel awkward; Bass sometimes takes a back seat in the audio balance

AMAZON ECHO SHOW 10 B084NTF5ZY review

Alexa now follows you around the room – and if that doesn't disturb you in any way, the Echo Show 10 is a very good smart device indeed

Large, responsive touchscreen, Added security camera functionality, Ease of use

Can be beaten for sound quality, No YouTube ‘skill’ support

AMAZON ECHO SHOW 10 B084NTF5ZY review

Amazon’s Echo Show 10 is big on eye-contact. Now in its third-generation, the rotating smart display has the same screen as its predecessor, but mounted on a swiveling base that uses person-tracking to make sure it’s always facing you.

Quiet, efficient motorized base opens up more placement flexibility, Alexa keeps getting more capable, Decent room-filling speakers, Good privacy focus for camera and motion

Video and music integrations are still underwhelming, Motion may not be as useful as Amazon bills it, Expensive compared to other smart displays

Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) review: Alexa's got her eye on you

Display can automatically rotate so it's always facing you ; Significant improvements in display brightness and image quality ; Strong home security features, including Alexa Guard and the subscription-based Alexa Guard Plus; Very good audio performance ;

You might find the tracking feature to be creepy (it can be disabled); Wi-Fi and Zigbee radios onboard, but there’s no Z-Wave or Thread support ; Needs at least 5 inches of clearance all the way around if it’s to fully rotate ;

AMAZON ECHO SHOW 10 B084NTF5ZY review

Creepy? Yes. Useful? Sometimes.

Smart security features, Zigbee on board, Enhanced smart home controls, 13MP camera with shutter

Not a Full HD display, Video apps still missing, Motion can be creepy, Expensive
