Amazon Echo Show 10 : A moving experience

A smart speaker with a screen, impressive audio quality and a little something extra

Technologically impressive motion tracking; Works beautifully for video calls; Good sound quality;

Motion setup can be fiddly;

Amazon Echo Show 10 review: Spin doctor

If you want a smart display for a big space and are used to using Amazon's Alexa as a smart assistant, then the addition of motion control here is an obvious added lure - if you're willing to pay the extra for it. The only downside, really, is the lack of some integrated apps such as YouTube.

Smart motion system; Decent sound; Clear 10.1-inch display; Netflix and Prime Video compatibility; Alexa is brilliant as ever;

Operating system can still be slow in places; Some Skills aren't that visual; No app for YouTube (and still waiting for Zoom);

Amazon Echo Show 10 review

The Amazon Echo Show is the best Echo Show yet, mainly due to its genuinely useful rotating ability. It makes apps that actually require you to look at the screen instantly more appealing, as they’re always in front of you when you look up. The speaker is also pretty good, making this is an impressively versatile Echo device. But £240 is a lot of money, and the motor doesn’t dramatically upgrade the experience. With app support still limited, the Echo Show 10 remains a so-so entertainment device, and by and large we found ourselves using ours in the same way we’ve used previous devices in the line: catching up on news, loading the odd recipe and setting timers when something has just gone in the oven. Video calling is better than before, but without Zoom or FaceTime we suspect a lot of people won’t use it much. If money is no option, you’ve got a decent-sized space for it to live in, and you’re all in on Amazon’s ecosystem, then the Echo Show 10 is probably the ultimate kitchen companion. Otherwise, there are more affordable alternatives, both with screens and without.

Spinning functionality works well; Large display; Doubles as a pretty good smart speaker; Alexa remains a great voice assistant ;

Expensive; Still lacking app support across the board; Large display bezels; Demands more room than ever;

Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) review: Alexa's got her eye on you

Display can automatically rotate so it's always facing you ; Significant improvements in display brightness and image quality ; Strong home security features, including Alexa Guard and the subscription-based Alexa Guard Plus; Very good audio performance ;

You might find the tracking feature to be creepy (it can be disabled); Wi-Fi and Zigbee radios onboard, but there’s no Z-Wave or Thread support ; Needs at least 5 inches of clearance all the way around if it’s to fully rotate ;

Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) Review

Smart displays are usually stationary screens. They have microphones and speakers, and you can talk to them and they answer back, but they otherwise just stay still. Their screens point in one direction, and if you want them to point somewhere else, you have to move them yourself. That isn’t the case with the third-generation $249.99 Amazon Echo Show 10, which has a motorized base that lets its 10.1-inch screen rotate to face you, wherever you are in the room. It's a surprising jump forward in usability, as you no longer have to stay in one place to see the display or make a video call. It makes for a significant increase in price over the $129.99 Echo Show 8, though you're also getting a larger screen and more powerful sound.An Innovative New Design Smart displays are fundamentally tablets attached to speakers, and the Echo Show 10 really embraces this concept: It looks like a large Fire tablet attached to a smaller version of an Echo Studio speaker. The bottom half is a barrel-s...

The third-generation Amazon Echo Show 10 smart display delivers powerful audio and adds a motorized base that lets the screen and camera rotate as you move around.

Motorized screen automatically rotates to track you; Loud, crisp sound; Built-in Zigbee hub for smart home device control; Useful home security features

Motion tracking can occasionally feel awkward; Bass sometimes takes a back seat in the audio balance

Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) Review: The true smart home command center

After a couple of years in circulation, the second-generation Echo Show 10 is finally getting a proper successor, Amazon has announced. The timing is ripe considering that its last effort was the Echo Show 8, which we billed as perfection in terms of the lineup because it had that balance between size, performance, and price. In order to differentiate itself from past offerings, the Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) is taking everything the company has learned about developing smart displays and packaging in new features that make it a more convergent gadget in the home. The headline here is how the display is fixed onto a rotating base for better visibility wherever you roam. It’s something we haven’t seen before. Beyond that, it’s a more well-rounded package that features an excellent smart speaker and a potential all-in-one security system to keep your home protected when you’re not there. Now that’s something to be happy about! As I’ve detailed already, the Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen...

Smooth and quiet panning; Effectively doubles as a security camera; Incredible audio performance;

Flimsy-feeling plastic construction;

Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Generation) Review

An excellent upgrade on the original, the Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Generation) can now follow you around, pointing its display at you. From watching films to making calls, this new tech keeps the smart display front and centre for all jobs. There are some neat new features, too, including security camera monitoring, although this only really works while it's bright enough to see normally. With excellent sound quality, too, this is the best overall smart display.

Moving screen is genuinely useful; Looks fantastic; Excellent sound;

Expensive; Camera is only useful when it's light;
