Combining excellent build quality, fantastic image results and amazing value for money, the K-1 definitely holds its own against established rivals from Canon and Nikon. It certainly seems like Pentax listened to photographers when designing the K-1 and built a camera to make them happy.

Announced on 17 February, the Pentax K-1 is Ricoh Imaging's first DSLR with a 'full-frame' sensor and offers a resolution of 36.4 effective megapixels. Like the Pentax K-3 II we reviewed in November 2015, there's no anti-aliasing filter in front of the sensor.

I have owned this camera from new. I use the 24 - 70 zoom,the 70 -200 zoom and the 150 - 450 zoom.I also own the 28 - 105 zoom. They all perform amazingly well with the K-1.

At $1,796.95, the Pentax K-1 ain't cheap but it isn't $6500 (like the Nikon D5) either, and this Pentax camera clearly punches above its weight for the features and image quality it delivers. What's more, the K-1 is a camera that feels a lot smarter than the average full frame DSLR.

True to its number-1 naming, the PENTAX K-1 signifies the arrival of a new era in 35mm full-frame digital SLR cameras.

As far as the image quality goes, it surely delivers. You'll need to work with the files more than you do a Canon, Nikon, or Sony camera's output. But you'll get the hang of it.

Yes, it's true. The new Pentax K-1 is the first time Pentax has ever made a 35mm full-frame digital camera. That's amazing considering Canon and Nikon have been at it for years, but also explains why Pentax has lagged behind for so long.
