iPhone XR review: Compelling compromise

The most interesting iPhone of 2018 isn't Apple's most expensive, or its largest: it's the iPhone XR, cheapest of the trio of new smartphones. The new entry-level iPhone may look like the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max at first glance, but that familiar style masks a handset that is, at $749, at least...
Pros:
  • 2018's most affordable new iPhone
  • New design and Face ID
  • Battery life more impressive than iPhone XS or XS Max
  • Solid camera performance
Cons:
  • Native Portrait mode only supports people
  • No headphone jack or in-box 3.5mm adapter

  • Single camera does well to handle the work of two

  • Bezels are very thick
  • Portrait mode limited to people

We may never know what the R in the iPhone XR actually means-Apple VP Phil Schiller himself said that the R doesn't really mean much to Apple. But I have my own guess: reboot. Before the release of the iPhone X last year, the iPhone 8 was in need of a redesign.

Apple iPhone XR

The best argument for the iPhone XR is its looks. From the front, it's nearly indistinguishable from iPhones that cost $250 to $350 more. From the back, the colored models are simply gorgeous. The XR simply makes you look fashionable, and I don't think we should discount the power of fashion.
Pros:
  • Available in gorgeous colors
  • Super-fast processor
  • Bright screen
Cons:
  • Wireless performance isn't up to par with XS models

iPhone XR review

The XR is the perfect antidote to the ludicrously expensive XS duo and it’s refreshing to see Apple isn’t scrimping on the important stuff to push down that price. In the flesh, the LCD screen is far better than we could’ve ever imagined after Apple’s announcement in September. The camera is as good as many other flagships, and although you might not get the wow-factor on portrait mode, pictures are still worthy of a 100 insta likes. If you’re nestled in the Apple eco-system and haven’t upgraded in a year or so, the XR is a no brainer. If you made the jump to iPhone X in 2017, you probably won’t be that impressed and should opt for the iPhone XS.
Pros:
  • excellent battery life
  • speedy
  • multiple colour options
  • reasonable price
Cons:
  • LCD screen not as good as OLED
  • No portrait mode for dogs, cats and bearded dragons

Did not like the battery life of XS, so I took care of it for the benefit of an XR. XR feels strangely like a better phone, even though it is obviously easier and cheaper. + Battery time. Finally okay. Plus Standard without having to have Plus Size. Usually has 60-70% left at bedtime. + Screen.

Apple iPhone XR (64GB, Red) - Excellent review

Of the three iPhone models released this year, it’s pretty clear which one is the best: the most pricey of the bunch, the iPhone XS Max not only packs the some of the best hardware, but does it with a big screen and massive battery.
Pros:
  • That great iPhone XS design in a less expensive aluminium take, Aluminium feels just as premium as stainless steel to most hands, and it now comes in colours!, Great performance, Excellent camera, Portrait mode may only work with people, but it does a great job, Some of the best iPhone battery life...
Cons:
  • No extra zoom lens, No headphone converter in the box, Still kind of expensive
