Apple iPhone SE (2022) review: Great value in a very good iPhone

The iPhone SE — despite the ‘dated’ design and ‘high’ price’ offers great value. No, it doesn’t have the flashy display and fancy camera specs that a lot of Android phones offer in this price range and less.

Apple iPhone SE 2022 (64GB, Midnight) AU - Pristine review

Small but wow! The iPhone SE gets more expensive in 2022 but still continues to be the most affordable Apple smartphone. Thanks to its very current A15 chip, it should be hard to beat in its price class in terms of performance.
Pros:
  • compact and high-quality, 5G capable, world phone, very powerful, IP certified
Cons:
  • only a 60-Hz display, low screen resolution, aged design, inflexible single-lens camera

Apple iPhone SE 2022 (64GB, Midnight) AU - Pristine review

Is Apple's smallest, cheapest iPhone still a tempting option in 2023? Let's find out.
Cons:
  • The phone needs to be a multimedia device: With its small screen, the iPhone SE 2022 isn’t a good choice if you want a phone for gaming, video watching or any other content-focussed task.

Apple iPhone SE 2022 (64GB, Midnight) AU - Pristine review

The iPhone SE (2022) continues Apple's run of delivering cutting-edge innards for a cut-price iPhone. The camera is alarmingly good in most circumstances, and the A15 chip will make sure this phone gets updates for years to come.
Pros:
  • Very fast processor, 5G connectivity, Tough, premium glass design, Very strong camera
Cons:
  • Single rear camera & no Night mode, Older design still clinging on, Unimpressive battery life

Apple's New iPhone SE Could Have Been Great

The cheapest iPhone has the same processor as the most expensive iPhone. But it doesn't feel very special.
Pros:
  • The best-performing phone at this price. Bright screen. Decent (day-long) battery life. Wireless charging support. It's compact. Apple supports its smartphones for a long time. Sub-6 5G connectivity.
Cons:
  • The screen feels cramped
  • tough to type. No OLED, no high screen refresh rate, no two-day battery life, unlike some peers. Lack of a Night mode in the camera means low-light images aren't great.

iPhone SE (2022) review: Stale looks, crisp performance

Rather than repackage the past in a way that challenges the expectations of today, the new iPhone SE settles for the comfort of nostalgia and a bigger battery.
Pros:
  • iOS software support, A15 Bionic processor, Improved battery life
Cons:
  • Middling camera, Lacks Face ID, Low resolution display

iPhone SE 2022 Revisited: Still Worth Buying in 2023?

With a 5.4-inch LCD screen, a single camera on the back, and an ancient design, the purchase of the iPhone SE 2022 was already questionable last year. At that time, however, we recommended the phone mainly to those Apple fans who wanted to stick with the popular design with a home button.
Pros:
  • Insane performance level, High-quality workmanship, Surprisingly good photo and video performance, Solid battery life that lasts up till late at night
Cons:
  • Display is simply outdated, Too few camera functions, Low storage space in the base model without expandable memory, More expensive than predecessor at market launch

iPhone SE 2022 review

The iPhone SE only makes sense for buyers who simply have to have an iPhone, but can’t afford the step up to the 12 Mini – or won’t give up on Touch ID just yet. If that’s you, then the iPhone SE will serve you well so long as you can stomach the dinky display and retro aesthetic – but equivalent...
Pros:
  • Latest Apple chip, Wireless charging, IP67 water-resistance
Cons:
  • Dated design, Awful LCD display, Only one rear camera, Poor value

Apple iPhone SE 2022 (64GB, Midnight) AU - Pristine review

The iPhone SE is one of the best bargains in modern smartphones. It is not the flashiest or most feature-rich but it offers more bang for buck for longer than any other. It has an almost vintage design, lacks the MagSafe charging and accessory system, Face ID and other niceties of Apple’s more...
Pros:
  • Pros: lowest-cost new iPhone, about seven years of software support, A15 chip, 5G, wireless charging, decent single-lens camera, top performance, easy to handle, water resistance, Touch ID, amazing value.
Cons:
  • Cons: battery life could be better, no headphone socket, no zoom camera, no Face ID, dated design, very slow charging, no MagSafe.
