The iPhone 8 Plus is a curious case of a great smartphone that fails to excite.
Pros:
- Fastest phone you can buy today
- Brilliant 1080p display
- Stellar battery life
- Speedy camera with accurate focusing
Cons:
- Dated design
- Low-light camera performance should have been better
- Sort of in no man's land
- thanks to the iPhone X
- Wireless charger has to be purchased separately

The camera is the best in the world at present with 94 rating on DxoMark edging over the Samsung Note 8. ?Wireless charging is useful ?Glass back feels premium ?Dual camera is powerful with portrait lightning mode making it too good.

If there's an iPhone to buy right now, it is the iPhone 8 Plus. It is quite unusual to start a review with what seems like a verdict. But, there seems to be no illusion about which is the best Apple smartphone to buy until the iPhone X is out.

It's that time of the year again – Apple's firmly established yearly release cycle means today we assess the iPhone 8 Plus. The current flagship, though due to be usurped by the iPhone X very soon, the 8 Plus boasts a new A11 Bionic chip, a dual-camera set up plus a new glass back.

From the outside the iPhone 8 looks almost identical to the iPhone 7 but there are enough new features and improvements to make the latest model much better than its predecessor. But, in a first for Apple, there is also a better iPhone – the iPhone X – about to be released in a matter of weeks.

Apple iPhone 8 Plus Review: A fine phone, but not the exciting iPhone
The iPhone 8 Plus is an interesting beast. It's the safety phone. Hopefully representing the last of its kind, because Apple is obviously ready to move on. Apple is also a victim of their own success though. The transition to the iPhone X will take a little time.
Pros:
- The most powerful phone hardware of the year
- 4k/60FPS video in half the file size
- Wireless charging based on an actual standard
Cons:
- Battery life continues to suffer, Not the most durable
- Worn and dated design, Flagship pricing, but not Apple's crown jewel for 2017
