The 2018 model was the revolution, for 2020 it’s nips and tucks, meaning business as usual.
Pros:
- Lovely screen and smooth performance
- USB-C more practical for accessories
- Trackpad support (and incoming Magic Keyboard) make for a true laptop replacement
- LiDAR sensor adds future potential
Cons:
- LiDAR app support is few and far between
- Doesn't feel much faster than 2018 model
- Your Lightning accessories won't work (it's USB-C)

The 2020 iPad Pro is a terrific tablet that, thanks to features like trackpad support and some under-the-hood tweaks, comes closer than ever to feeling like a traditional computer.
Pros:
- Strong performance
- LiDAR could be an AR game-changer
- Mostly elegant trackpad support
- Base model now has more storage
Cons:
- Ultra-wide camera not as good as main
- Some apps need to be trackpad-optimized
- Still no headphone jack
- Hardware doesn't feel dramatically updated

- Fantastic performance
- smooth animations
- USB Type-C
- 128 GB base storage
Cons:
- Accessories are pricey (Magic Keyboard not even out yet)
- Higher storage tiers can get expensive
- File system is still a bit funky

The 2020 iPad Pro is very much the 2018 model plus added cameras and lidar. It’s a feature that improves AR and may prove transformative down the line. But AR on a tablet remains niche. Instead the big changes are software as part of iPadOS 13.4, which is also available for older models.
Pros:
- good battery life
- fast
- beautiful screen
- optional 4G
- USB-C
- great speakers
- Face ID
- mouse support
- capable work PC replacement
- lidar
Cons:
- very expensive
- no kickstand without case
- no headphone socket
- will still need a PC for some tasks

If you don't already own a tablet, then the iPad Pro 2020 is the one to get. And now that it can act as a proper laptop replacement (with some updates to iPadOS), that sky-high price (plus pricey accessories) is justified.
Pros:
- Stellar performance
- Intuitive and useful trackpad support
- Vivid and superbright display
- Awesome cameras
- Long battery life
Cons:
- Previous model is a better value
- No headphone jack
- Expensive (Accessories sold separately)

Pros:
- Fast A12Z processor
- although it's not a huge improvement over the A12X
- LiDAR sensor greatly improves augmented reality
- but will you use it?
- Satisfying ultra-wide lens
- Magic Keyboard accessory is a great (though pricey) match
Cons:
- Expensive
- AR not yet robust enough yet to get a lot out of the LiDAR sensor

2018’s iPad Pro was the best tablet money could buy — and this one’s even better. Just don’t expect a revolution this time.
Pros:
- Excellent screen and beautifully realised design
- Superb speaker system and surprisingly good mics
- Peerless and versatile app and accessories ecosystem
- Revamped camera is a meaningful improvement
Cons:
- Pricey — not least when you add accessories
- 12.9in model weighty for long tablet sessions

Apple iPad Pro 12.9" 4th Gen Wifi (512GB, Space Grey) - Refurbished (Excellent) review
My ten year old desk top wasn’t working right so I brought it to the Apple Genius Bar. They got it working and said with my new iPad I didn’t need a more updated computer. I still don’t know everything I can do with it but I’m an artist and am figuring out which apps will be best for my purposes.
