Apple iPad Pro 12.9 review

The iPad Pro is not for everyone. If you don’t see the value of owning such a large tablet, then its generous curves won’t be enough to persuade you to buy one. That’s OK, just get the iPad Air 2 instead – it’s still our top tablet all-rounder. Because it runs on iOS 9, the iPad Pro isn’t as serious a device as the Surface Pro 4. It means business, but works even better as a premium entertainment hub. It’s the perfect digital coffee table book that just about doubles as a laptop. So long as you can get by with the app-based incarnations of desktop software like PhotoShop and Excel. If you’re happy to pay a high price for this limited functionality, then make sure you pick up a Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil with your iPad Pro. That’s a lot of screen you’ll have just bought yourself, best make the most of it.
Pros:
  • So much crisp display
  • Improved immersive sound experience
  • Super long battery life
Cons:
  • Not 3D Touch-enabled
  • Accessories not included
  • Supersized price tag

Apple iPad Pro 12.9 review: Back to the drawing board?

In terms of never needing to touch a computer again, we are almost there. Power users will disagree, but for the majority the iPad Pro will delivery just what they need.
Pros:
  • Massive screen with high resolution looks great
  • Apple Pencil accessory works really well
  • Best iPad performance to date
  • Smart Connector wireless accessory connections
Cons:
  • Weights same as a laptop with optional keyboard added
  • Not as portable as other iPads
  • Keyboard accessory doesn't truly turn it into a laptop
  • IOS not OS X will divide "pro" opinion

Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2020) review: Business as usual

The 2018 model was the revolution, for 2020 it’s nips and tucks, meaning business as usual.
Pros:
  • Lovely screen and smooth performance
  • USB-C more practical for accessories
  • Trackpad support (and incoming Magic Keyboard) make for a true laptop replacement
  • LiDAR sensor adds future potential
Cons:
  • LiDAR app support is few and far between
  • Doesn't feel much faster than 2018 model
  • Your Lightning accessories won't work (it's USB-C)

Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch Wi-Fi 256GB -Space Grey (4th Generation) MXAT2X/A review

The 2020 iPad Pro is very much the 2018 model plus added cameras and lidar. It’s a feature that improves AR and may prove transformative down the line. But AR on a tablet remains niche. Instead the big changes are software as part of iPadOS 13.4, which is also available for older models.
Pros:
  • good battery life
  • fast
  • beautiful screen
  • optional 4G
  • USB-C
  • great speakers
  • Face ID
  • mouse support
  • capable work PC replacement
  • lidar
Cons:
  • very expensive
  • no kickstand without case
  • no headphone socket
  • will still need a PC for some tasks
