For me, the only let down so far is that the NAS CANNOT be connected directly to my computer. The USB ports are only for linking more drives. I know it's a NAS/Cloud Drive, and it works as expected in that regard but WD should have made it clear that it CANNOT be directly connected to a computer.
The My Cloud Pro PR2100 may not be the flashiest or fanciest NAS drive around, but if you want reliability and a solid range of essential features, then this appliance will deliver the goods at a reasonable price.
Very simple to set up and use; Lots of automatic backup options; PC free back up from USB drives
Lacks some whistles and bells; Lengthy file transfers for large quantities
Awesome cloud app. Much faster than wd mycloud book. That said the 4tb is 2x2tb ehich wasnt clear to me and I found very snnoying as I wanted a 4tb disk and a spare slot for later expansion.
Don't bother worst experience, Customer service at WD gave no support to trouble shoot just asked me to send it back for replacement OK no prob I did. I figured I just lost my time BUT then they gave me a refurbished model on a unit less than 30 days old on top of that it was pretty heavily used...
This system works well as a server, backup and Plex media server. Transcoding for Plex works well for DVD and Bluray but have not tried anything with 4K. Every once in a while, you have to restart the Plex app on the server (not sure if that is a timing out thing or not).
The WD My Cloud Pro Series PR2100 Network Attached Storage (NAS) is an excellent system for professionals, it's also available in 4-bay setup under the PR4100 model name.
WD has expanded its range of two-bay My Cloud servers with the launch of the Pro Series PR2100. Priced from £380 for a diskless unit and extending up to £860 for a top-of-the-line 16TB model, the compact NAS offers centralised storage in a package tailored to creative professionals.
Simple setup; User-friendly interface; Quad-core Intel processor; Front one-touch USB 3.0 copy; Multiple PC or Mac backup options; Three-year warranty on populated models
Not as feature rich as the competition; Vibration and noise can be bothersome
