This is not Network Attached Storage. It is some kind of Cloud hybrid that can be used to share files over the internet. It is not suitable for Plex, unless you use the built in Plex application, meaning you can't attach this and other storage and share your media through a single Plex server.

Not Original My Cloud Device

If you have a previous MyCloud NAS Appliance this is nothing like the original. It is a sharing device and requires software on each PC to do backups. The USB is only for importing files and can't be use as a connection to an additional Hard Drive for extra storage.

Looking for inexpensive home NAS -- this may not be for you & maybe it's not ready for prime time.

The My Cloud Home is very different from its predecessors – My Book and My Cloud home network storage devices. If you simply want to increase your network storage as I do – adding it to a 3TB My Book Live and two 6TB My Cloud network storage devices – you may be disappointed to find that the My...

Big disappointment compared to old My Cloud Personal (non home addition)

WD has discontinued the single disk version of the My Cloud, name My Cloud personal. They replaced it with My Cloud Home Personal, removing features such as having different used permissions and multiple shared folders.

It's straightforward, simple to set up and use.The drawback is that it creates too many backupfiles and I can't seem to stop it from copying every file as soon as I get connected to it with my cell.Probably due to my ignorance.Overall it serves me well for what I do and that is sharing certain files...

Great for backing things up

So you need a little know how when setting this up as it's a little harder than the product makes out. You can back stuff up from the desktop it makes a folder for you on c: drive where you can drag and drop folders to save stuff and you can even make your own folders.

Be careful on how you want to use it

I've been wanting a NAS for a while for music sharing around the house and file backup. WD seem to be the standard so went for this new model. Couple of things to point out: 1. Very noisy upon initial install, file drop. But this seems to have calmed down now. 2.

Don't buy it

I already owned a WD MyCloud. I thought this new Home version would be an upgrade. I was wrong. The Home version is terrible. It's largely unconfigurable. You can't create new network share drives on it. You have to log on to a WD website to change its settings.

WD My Cloud Home 4TB Personal Cloud Storage

I bought this by mistake - a stupid, lazy, expensive mistake. I thought I was buying a "My Cloud" - WD's NAS-lite solution for personal users. "My Cloud Home" is effectively nothing more than a stupidly overpriced photo storage box.
