Have no trouble with this hard drive and it is fast
I was looking for a 1TB HDD for a long time and this came up at the right time for the right money. The unit feels good in hand, it is very small and light. I am not going to say much about the speed because I really never measure it. For me, all work the same way.
CrystalDiskInfo tells me that the drive inside is an WD40EZRX which is a Caviar Green. Why should I care Well, in case you don't know, Green drives park their heads every 8 seconds to save power. That would be fine, except that it also increases the LCC (Load Cycle Count).
Lots of space; No hardware encryption like the WD My Book
Parks the head every 8 seconds which could rack up a high LCC in no time; Bad for the drive but fixable; See below
After losing all of my data twice in my life, I swore never to let it happen again. WD helped me go back on this promise. I have purchased this device roughly a year ago and treated it with the utmost care and diligence in the mean time. This was meant to be a "cold storage", final-solution backup.
I purchased the 4TB Elements external HD as a back up for the 4TB desktop Elements HD. The desktop version will replace my saving images onto my iMac HD and using up HD space. This external HD was easy enough to reformat for the iMac OS, with the assistance of a B&H staff member, and has properly...
The drive works well and is quite fast, the price was very reasonable as well, the only drawbacks are that the light on the enclosure is tiny so not easy to see if the drive is working, and there is no power switch on the enclosure, I prefer an on/off switch so if I'm not using the drive, I can...
I have it attached to my computer USB as a backup. Still working after two years. Haven't had any trouble with it. It's not the fastest, but it's purpose is for photo backup not for gaming or fast transfers. It's quiet and sits in the background. I forget I have it most of the time.
