Bought Used, still great.

I bought this lens used from someone on here. He mentioned the dial was stiff and it is. It's not so bad but I have to get used to gripping it instead of just zooming with one finger. I don't know if that is normal for a new one or not.

Wouldn't recommend

After using it for around 3 months, have to say it is not at all impressive. May be I hv a bad copy, but this lens consistently churns out average photos. Either go for Nikon (which is costlier but impressive output) or stick with cheaper Nikon 18-55.

Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] VC - Review / Test Report

The Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] VC is a very promising lens based on its specifications. However, it falls somewhat short of the high expectations especially when considering the excellent performance of its non-VC variant.

Features & handling This is a well-designed lens that feels really nice. The zoom ring is a good size and has a positive feel to it. The focusing ring is very loose in manual mode, which is a bit disappointing considering the rest of the build.

Fantastic every day lens!

Besides the motor being rather loud, I really can't complain about this lens. The price is great for the quality. I have this lens on my camera 70% of the time and I am definitely impressed with how well it works in low light.

Most of the alphabet seems to feature at some point in the Tamron's full title, but these abbreviations promise plenty of features. SP signifies Super-Performance, based on three XR (Extra-Refractive) elements, an LD (Low-Dispersion) element and two Aspherical elements in its construction.

I wanted to provide some detail about my experiences with this new lens, and it's performance in my day to day photography work. If you had asked me 15 years ago, I would have been very hard pressed to recommend a Tamron Lens, but with some work and time, they have managed to sell me on this...

Solid Construction: OK, we hear a lot about "plastic" feel and less than rugged construction; I think we will have to get used to this construction method as it will be the norm going forward.

Auto Focus Lock: OK here is where I will complain about Tamron's way of doing things; On other AF lenses that I have from Nikon, you can turn the Auto-Focus Ring, while the lens is set to Auto and it freely turns without causing any potential damage to the lens.

Great lens

My first lens upgrade from the kit one I got for my Nikon. I really like it, its strong, works well and big improvement in the pictures. No complaints from me at all.

Durable; Rugged

Wedding Photographer

This lens offered me the best bang for the buck as I am starting to do Weddings and events. I need a fast lens for low light venues and this lens does a great job. I have it paired with a Canon 7D and it has given me some clean crisp shots.
