Wide range of usages, given its pictorial and optical qualities, weather sealing, close focus, and stabilization. Very convenient FL, by the way. At ease with portraits, social events (despite bulk and slow AF, but MF is good enough), architecture.
Pros:
- Image quality is very appealing
- I'd say "delicate rendering", as contrast may be milder than with, say, recent Zeiss lenses
- Users should not get blinded by absolute resolution figures (yes, Otus is better, so what).
Cons:
- Size and weight

Great Prime for the Money
Pros: Great prime lens for a very good price. Cons: Heavy but understandable due to better glass Other thoughts: This lens makes a great addition to anyone's collection.

My new favorite lens, it's simply beautiful.
There are plenty of reviews about this lens on YouTube etc and I would suggest watching a few of them. Personally I love this lens, it is sharp at f1.8 and extremely sharp from f2.8 on wards. I used Focal software to micro adjust the focus which gave me a reading of -5 and it is now spot on.

Perfect, received the item after only two days.
Pros:
- very sharp F1.8 with VC give you options more than an f1.4 lens

Great lens for a great price
I read several reviews saying they had some focusing issues with this lens but I recently bought the 85mm 1.8 VR and was very pleased with it after similar reviews. I LOVE this lens, the sharpness and color are very good. The AF has give me zero problems.

Amazing Lens at a Great Price
Every once in a while you run across a great lens at a bargain price. The Tamron SP45 is one of those lenses. I tested my copy on a Nikon D750 (24MP.) In those tests (performed 03/2018) I found the lens to be extremely sharp wide open, at f1.8, edge to edge with sharp corners.

The open aperture is set to F/1.8 with optimized critical properties at a higher level: superb optical performance coupled with a VC system, a shorter MOD, and a well-balanced form factor.

It's the closest thing to a stabilised 50mm lens that also manages to be lightweight and high performing...
Pros:
- Nice and light
- Weather seals
- Lovely bokeh
Cons:
- Not quite f/1.4
