I'm using the DS120J with a WD Red HDD as a remote backup NAS for my DS218+. Works as expected from a Synology product. Great value for money!

Nice unit - setup was easy and it works well... Prefer this to Asustor as it has Linux / SSH capabilities , making it easy to remote in, or create bash scripts as a scheduled tasks.

Bought it, unboxed it, set it up with new hard drive and did all the software configuration, then less than 24 hours later fan had failed and had to be returned.

Easy setup works great

As a first time user of Synology NAS I found this product very easy to use. For someone who has never opened up a NAS before It was very easy to install the Seagate HDD. It took me less than 10minutes to put it together. I setu8p the apps on my iPhone, Mabook Air & Apple TV and it was very straightforward. Highly recommend!

The Synology Disk Station is a brilliant product, with very comprehensive operating software. The ordering and pickup was great - it was ready for me to pickup without delay!

My initial thoughts are that it works well as a file storage device using Samba as the transfer protocol however the Moments photo and the Video playback are very disappointing. It needs to convert the original photo format to a format that it uses internally to store the file which is a very slow process. Also retrieving those photos back will inevitably be at a lower quality. The videos upload seems only to be transferred using file station and I have yet to find a format that it can play.
