It's been almost three years since we last reviewed a single-bay NAS - and with good reason. The market for single-bay NASes has shrunk significantly. In fact, if you shop for single-bay NASes on Amazon , many that you see are discontinued models.

Added a 6TB WD RED Pro HD and am streaming media throughout the house without issue, the exception being the PS4 that does not support playback for some of the formats in my media collection. I will give 5 stars once it plays nicely with PLEX.
Is an excellent product with lots of useful fatures, a bit slow and only one drive, so I returned it and bought the 2 drives with an improved processor, as personal cloud and after researching everywhere, Synology is the best system you can buy
Synology's latest single bay NAS is the DiskStation DS118. Part of the company's Value Series, the DS118 is equipped with a quad core 64-bit processor and DDR4 memory and is marketed as a high performance single bay NAS for small offices and home users.
DMS software; Quad core processor; Hardware encryption; Transcoding engine
Single disk offers no data protection; Not cheap
Having used an older ds116 with 1tb of storage for 6 months I was used to the Synology NAS. When I started to run out of space I invested in a newer ds118 with a WD 4tb HDD. As NAS units go it's about as simple to set up and use as any.
This unit is not what was advertised and not what was delivered. The unit was advertised with 12TB storage but it does not come with any storage and when challenged I was told sorry our advertising is wrong. The unit WILL NOT show or thumbnail all photographic files.
Setup new NAS very quickly with new Ironwolf 2TB HDD.
