Sony A9G / AG9 Master Series OLED review

The Sony A9G/AG9 is worthy of any AV lover's entertainment center thanks to its best-in-class upscaling, 4K picture processing and respectable gaming performance. But the lack of HDR10+ support will make enthusiasts wary.

Luscious 4K HDR images; Best-in-class upscaling; Acoustic Surface+ audio;

No support for HDR10+; No Freeview Play; Undeniably expensive

Best TV I have ever watched!

Incredible TV with 4K picture, OLED blacks giving superior contrast and the sound-through-screen centre channel set up really works. The processing is noticeably better than the grey bloom I often saw in QLED TV's (and I think even a slight notch up from LG's own processing). Having had 2 Samsung LED TVs in the recent past that have not lasted (including a 9Q that didn't make it to 2 years before meltdown), I think I have found not only a better TV but a better TV maker. Also prefer the Google Assist, menu structure, solid remote and sexier bevel/stand. Service provided by Travis at Good Guys Cockburn was also first class. The Sony A9G is quite simply the best TV I have ever watched.

Sony Master Series A9G 4K HDR OLED TV review: The best TV

The Sony A9G OLED TV is the best TV you can buy in the U.S. this year. Thanks for reading! Ah, if it were only that easy. But such a bold statement has to be qualified, so I will do my best to do so below. Certainly, the A9G has tight competition coming from LG’s own OLED TVs, Samsung’s QLEDs, and, believe it or not, some surprising competition from TCL’s Micro LED sets. Yet when everything is weighed, the Sony A9G comes out on top for me. Here’s why. The Sony A9G’s design might not be entirely practical for those who intend to stand-mount it, but its design is inarguably sexy. With a slightly raked back, ultra-thin profile and a bottom edge that seems to melt into your entertainment stand, the A9G (available in 55-,65-, and 77-inch variants) is especially fetching. Ultra-trim bezels seal the deal as soon as the TV is turned on, revealing a canvas that’s almost all-picture and no edges. The A9G also finally gets an upgraded remote control with only a slight design tweak, but a signific...

Perfect black levels; Outstanding color, contrast; Superior picture processing; Excellent HDR performance; Impressive sound quality;

Not as bright as LG OLEDs;
