The diminutive Sony FE 24mm F2.8 G lens captures a wide angle view and doesn't cut any corners when it comes to construction. The Sony FE 24mm F2.8 G ($599.99) is one of a new batch of compact primes for the company's full-frame mirrorless camera system. Its captures a wide angle of view, but not too broad for day-to-day photography, and comes in an attractive aluminum barrel. It's not the only lens of its type, though, and we like the Sigma 24mm F3.5 DG DN Contemporary just a little bit more—it's priced $50 lower and is our Editors' Choice award winner in this price range.The Wide Standard The FE 24mm F2.8 G is made for full-frame cameras. It captures an angle of view that's considered wide angle in the photo world, but has become a standard lens for many. Good for video and compact size
This lens is good for photo and video and compact size. In the future we hope to get better with f1.4

What a delight to have such a light and compact lens that handles superbly and delivers excellent sharpness both centre and edge. 24mm is such a useful wide-angle and it is quite surprising that there are so few prime lenses of this focal length currently on the market.

So Far, So Good!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Although small / lightweight, this lens is solidly built and features great manual controls (aperture ring, focus ring, etc.). The body seems rock solid and it is a fun and easy lens to use for everyday photography. Although designed for a full-frame sensor, I am using this lens on a Sony A6000 (APS-C), and it’s performed great so far. Sharpness is good and the bokeh is nice and smooth. Though I haven’t shot with it much yet, I can see this becoming one of my go-to lenses when I just want to get out with the camera and not haul a bunch of gear around. The lens is somewhat pricey, and there are obviously similarly positioned 3rd-party lenses that can be had for a bit less, but this little lens checks a lot of boxes optically in a lightweight, easy-to-handle package. **I purchased this product at a discounted price, in exchange for my honest appraisal of its performance.**

We found several flaws as well; if you add them to the price, amounting to 700 Euro, you'll understand why the lens might be not as popular on the market as the Sony company would wish it to be. I think that, for example, few owners of 24-70 mm or 24-105 mm lenses will ever consider such a purchase.
Pros:
- solid, weather-sealed mechanical construction,, very good image quality in the frame centre,, sensible image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,, very good correction of longitudinal chromatic aberration,, slight astigmatism,, moderate vignetting on the APS-C sensor,, excellent performance...
Cons:
- some problems with lateral chromatic aberration,, high vignetting on full frame,, huge distortion on RAW files,, exorbitant price.
