Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS (SEL-35F18) - Review / Lens Test Report

Given the recent announcements, Sony is finally getting serious about beefing up their lens lineup for the Sony NEX system - so far this has been a major weakness of the system. It seems as if they are feeling the heat introduced by the highly successful Fuji X-system.

Finally able to put away lens adapters

Using this lens provides me with glass comparable to what most manual legacy prime lenses many of us use with adapters. In lab testing a Zeiss T* will outperform in MTF data. But in the real world all the program features and enhancements offered by the SONY, like Optical Steady Shot, Auto-focus,...

Fast Program Modes; Great Dof Control; No Adapter Need; Precise Auto-focus; Very lightweight; Virtually Zero Distortion

No aperture ring

Makes me love the A6000 even more. Loved shooting fast primes with my Canon outfit and this lens took my a6000 to the next level. Use it as a walk around, much better than the kit lens that came on there.

Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS Review

The Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS ($449.99) is the company's standard-angle lens for its APS-C mirrorless camera system. The compact prime—it doesn't offer zoom—opens all the way up to f/1.8, so you can capture better shots in dim light and blur backgrounds behind your subject. It also sports optical stabilization, a plus for both stills and video. The only thing missing is weather protection, a feature that rival Fujifilm builds into its APS-C mirrorless lenses, but Sony reserves for full-frame glass. If you use a sealed camera, consider pairing it with the full-frame FE 35mm F1.8 ($749.99), but be aware you'll lose stabilization and pay a premium. Compact Standard Prime The E 35mm F1.8 OSS is a featherweight, measuring just 1.8 by 2.5 inches (HD) and weighing in at 5.4 ounces. It supports 49mm front filters, the same size used by many other of the lenses Sony sells for its APS-C mirrorless system. A reversible lens hood is included, along with front and rear caps. Some Sony bodies, i...

The Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS lens offers a bright aperture and standard angle of view for capturing sharp images with a shallow depth of field.

Light and compact; Wide aperture; Optical stabilization; Sharp results; Distortion-free photos

Some off-center softness at wide aperture; Omits weather protection

Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS Lens - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 isn’t a huge upgrade on the iPhone 13, yet it still is a great phone with a top camera, good battery life and all the iOS benefits.

Clever safety features, Very good battery life, Reliable camera, Fun colours, You’ve got an ageing iPhone: If you’re on an iPhone 11 or older, then the changes here will make a notable difference.

Stuck on a 60Hz display, Minimal differences to the iPhone 13, You’ve got an iPhone 13: The changes from Apple’s previous phone aren’t enough to warrant an upgrade this year.

Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS Lens - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS Lens - Brand New review

“The iPhone 14 isn't a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor. But with a great design, screen, performance, and cameras, that's far from a bad thing at all.”

Comfortable, high-end build, OLED screen looks fantastic, A15 chip performs great, Good camera upgrades, Dependable battery life, Helpful safety features

60Hz display, No telephoto camera, eSIM might be a pain for some
