Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX90V

Sony's latest superzoom, the Cyber-shot DSC-HX90V ($429.99), inherits some of the features from its premium RX camera series, including an excellent pop-up electronic viewfinder and a control ring around its lens.

Sharp, 30x zoom lens; Quick focus; Compact design; Excellent pop-up EVF; Solid control layout; Sharp, tilting rear LCD; 10fps burst capture; GPS; Wi-Fi

Images suffer at high ISO; No Raw support; Long delay after burst shooting; Lacks continuous autofocus setting for still images; Pricey

Sony Cyber-shot HX90V review

These days it's not enough to simply cram a massive zoom range into a tiny form factor, a successful compact super-zoom has to accommodate a lot more besides. With its earlier HX50(V) and HX60(V) Sony was already doing pretty well, but reducing its already tiny proportions while adding a flip-up...

Smartphones are getting so capable at taking pictures that you need a good reason to take an actual camera with you when you travel these days – and one compelling reason is that you'll generally get a more powerful zoom lens.

30x zoom range; Tilting screen; Manual control

No raw shooting; No touchscreen; Low light performance could be better

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX90V

For a small sensor, compact superzoom I have to give it 5 stars. The viewfinder is handy in tricky lighting and then most of the time is out of the say. The images stay sharp enough at zoom to be satisfactory (not great but satisfactory which is pretty good for a small sensor in a small camera) and...

Sharp images at widest apertures; EVF, tilt screen, focus peaking for manual focus; Fits in your pocket

Not weather sealed; Pricy

Got this used through Amazon Warehouse and came in perfect condition, like new

Got this used through Amazon Warehouse and came in perfect condition, like new. Beautiful pictures, very clear and crisp, unbelievable zoom, tons of features, fits in your pocket. Plenty of auto settings for the novice or custom settings and advanced features for the professional.

Okay, some people write reviews about this camera without owning it. I found the zoom to be really good and meets my needs. The video recording aspect looks great but you cannot transfer it to your phone unless it is in the lowest quality setting MP4.

I have been using HX-90 and then HX-90V for a total of almost one year now. I bought the latter when my former refused to work in the middle of my trip to Lisbon. Even though it was still under warranty, I needed a replacement immediately, so I bought its continuator.
