Sony A7C Mirrorless Camera with 28-60mm Lens - Black ILCE7CLB review

The Sony a7C is gives up very little in the way of features in order to achieve its small size. Its image quality is very good and its AF is excellent, but its small viewfinder takes away from the experience a little.
Pros:
  • Travel photography
  • an always-with-you family camera

Sony A7C Mirrorless Camera with 28-60mm Lens - Black ILCE7CLB review

Sony has shrunk its best all-round camera, with both positive and negative results.

Cons:
  • Small viewfinder with moderate resolution. Strange placement of controls. Complex menus and limited video features.

Sony A7C Mirrorless Camera with 28-60mm Lens - Black ILCE7CLB review

When I first heard about Sony’s new A7C, I thought it was just a parts-bin camera — taking a lot of good things about the Alpha line and putting it into a new design. On paper, that’s exactly what the $1,800 A7C is: it’s the sensor, processor, and autofocus system of 2018’s A7 III in a body that’s...
Pros:
  • A full-frame camera in a small
  • compact design
  • Sturdy
  • bright articulating screen
  • Sony’s real-time autofocus system
Cons:
  • Still expensive
  • Poor menu button placement
  • Great full-frame lenses are expensive and heavy

Sony A7C Mirrorless Camera with 28-60mm Lens - Black ILCE7CLB review

Sony has leveraged the popularity of its A7 series, creating a full-frame camera that seems impossibly small in the A7C. There are lots of positives here in terms of build quality and performance, but it's lacking a little in areas like bitrate and frame rates when compared to the top tier cameras.
Pros:
  • Really compact size
  • Fully articulating screen
  • Fast autofocus and smart tracking features
  • Great build quality
  • Versatile video modes
Cons:
  • Only one SD card slot
  • No 4K60p
  • Menu button is in a really awkward place

Sony A7C Mirrorless Camera with 28-60mm Lens - Black ILCE7CLB review

There is a wide range of full-frame mirrorless cameras to choose from, from Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Sigma, and from Sony as well. We're just not sure the Sony Alpha A7C is one we'd choose. However, the vari-angle screen may be of benefit for vloggers, and those interested in video use.
Pros:
  • Compact full-frame camera and lens combo
  • Very good image quality possible with the right lens
  • Good noise performance
  • Vari-angle touch-screen
  • Rapid focus system
  • In-Body Image Stabilisation
  • Good battery life
Cons:
  • Doesn't feature the new Sony menu system
  • Touch-screen has limited functionality
  • Not convinced by the 28-60mm lens
  • Handling compromises due to size
  • No in-camera raw processing
  • Small
  • uncomfortable EVF

Sony A7C Mirrorless Camera with 28-60mm Lens - Black ILCE7CLB review

Placing full-frame tech inside an APS-C-sized body shows off exactly what Sony is capable of. In terms of image quality and performance, the A7C matches the A7 III, but in terms of usability, it’s a bit of a damp squib.
Pros:
  • Small and light
  • Kit package well-priced
  • Fully articulating screen
Cons:
  • Handling could be better
  • Low-resolution viewfinder
  • Kit lens not the best performer
  • Single card slot

Sony A7C Mirrorless Camera with 28-60mm Lens - Black ILCE7CLB review

The Sony A7C is a powerful, yet very portable full-frame camera that’s ideal for shooting travel, events or street photography. I’m sure there will be some people with larger-sized hands who may find the compact controls of the A7C a drawback.
Pros:
  • Tiny and lightweight body, Powerful 5-axis in-body image stabilization, Excellent battery life, Versatile AF modes, Flexible LCD
Cons:
  • Small EVF, Lacks front dial and other controls, Single memory-card slot
