Sony A6500 review

The A6500 is one of the best compact system cameras around, and sits at the very top of the APS-C tree. Capable of producing superb images straight out of the camera, its raft of high-speed features make it a particularly good match for anyone who likes to shoot fast-moving action subjects, be it wildlife or your pet dog. That said, Sony sadly still hasn’t quite reached perfection. Yes, we’ve finally got a touchscreen, but you can only use it for certain things. The A6500 is also pretty expensive, and if you tend to shoot non-moving fare like landscapes, portraits and macro, you might be better suited to the A6300. In that sense, the two cameras mirror the Fujifilm X-T2 and X-T20, which are their main rivals. Which you go for depends a lot on your preferences for a camera's controls and feel, as Sony and Fujifilm differ greatly here - but we reckon the X-T2 just edges it, thanks to its better frame rate and design. Buy the Sony A6500 here from Wex photographic

Excellent image quality; Great for capturing fast-moving objects; Touchscreen for fast operation;

Expensive; Poor battery life;

Sony Alpha A6500 review

The Alpha A6500 is Sony's most powerful mirrorless camera with an APSC sensor to date. Arriving just eight months after the previous Alpha A6300, the new A6500 unsurprisingly inherits much of that model's style and capabilities: the same flat-topped compact body with a built-in viewfinder and...

Sony Alpha A6500

Not too long after the A6300 was announced, Sony sprung the A6500 on the world. Sporting many of the same specifications of the A6300 , the new camera is designed to be a premium version of the model, intending to appeal to high-end enthusiasts and potentially even some pro photographers.

4K video; High-resolution viewfinder; Great autofocusing system

Touchscreen could be better implemented; No headphone socket

Sony A6500

The Sony A6500 replaces the 8-month-old A6300 as Sony's premium APS-C Alpha offering. The A6500 retains a similar outward appearance to its predecessor, featuring full weather sealing against dust and moisture ingress, but now has in-body 5-axis stabilization, a touch-enabled LCD screen, a bigger...

Sony A6500 review: A mini mirrorless powerhouse

The Sony A6500 is the company's 2017 flagship mirrorless camera with a crop sensor, sitting below the Sony A7 full-frame line-up. The A6500 joins an already bustling series across the wider A6000 range, with several cameras at different specifications available at different price points.

A tough and tiny powerhouse of a camera; 5-axis in-body image stabilisation means you don't rely on Sony's OSS lenses; autofocus is very fast in all shooting scenarios; video performance and image quality is second to none

Poor battery life; battery charger not included; touchscreen operation could be improved; relatively limited Sony E lens line up

Sony Alpha A6500 review

In-body image stabilization finally comes to the Sony APS-C flagship. Add bucketloads of buffer and a touchscreen, and the A6500 arguably surpasses Sony's A7 Mark II.

Lightning-quick AF system; Respectable buffer capacity; Expansive video options

Dim rear LCD; Noticeable rolling shutter; Still lacks a headphone port

Used this now for a few months. Here's a little what I think. Have just taken pictures with it, not filming. + Quick Focus. Meet right with focus. 11 frames per second. Cruel image quality. Many focus points. Small in hand. Digital viewfinder that shows exactly what you get in the picture.
