Lens Test: Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS AF

Sigma's long-awaited, second Optical Stabilizer (OS) lens ($549, street) is an 11.1X digital-only superzoom with one SLD and three aspheric elements. A 29-320mm equivalent, it follows Sigma's first OS lens, an 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 ($999, street), by more than four years, and outdoes its predecessor...

REVIEW: Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS

The Superzoom category of interchangeable lenses is becoming one of the most hotly contested areas of technology in the digital age and virtually everyone is trying to get in on the act. The Sigma 18-200mm is the latest to reach the dealers' showcases.

Good stabilisation system; Good build quality; Decent optical performance for type; Reasonably price

The negative points are; Heavier than some; Some CA around the edges at wider apertures; Barrel distortion at the wide end

Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC Lens Review

Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC lens is one of Sigma's DC lenses specifically designed for APS-C type dSLR cameras and has a reduced imaging circle, which means it will not be usable on full-frame cameras (the lens will actually fit the full-frame camera, but will vignette heavily because of the smaller...

Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS review

An all-in-one superzoom lens with optical stabilisation for APS-C digital SLRs which prides a range equivalent to 27-300mm on a 35mm camera.

High zoom range; Decent sharpness at shorter focal lengths; Highly effective optical stabiliser; Price

Falloff in sharpness at 200mm; CA towards edges can be noticeable along high contrast edges; Slow AF at telephoto end

One of the limitations with a kit lens is that you don't have a great focal length range, especially at the telephoto end of the scale. This Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 is not only small and light but also has an impressive optical stabiliser built-in (Canon and Nikon fits).

Disappointed

Although this is a nice lens, I'm disappointed that the one I received is less than stellar as it has quite a bit of dust inside as well as it tends to "vibrate" at times when you press the shutter button half way down. Am hoping that this company does the right thing & correct the issue.

Ask questions

I can't write a review about this lens because it didn't fit my camera. it needed an adapter. Make sure you ask questions before buying I didn't ask had to find out the hard way. there are adapters that will fit the lens.
