Samsung Gear Sport review

In the smartwatch world, the Gear Sport is more of a reliable squad player rather than a star striker. It doesn’t have the apps of Android Wear, the fitness depth of the Garmin Forerunner series or the battery life of a Fitbit Ionic. On the other hand, its interface is one of the best you’ll find on any smartwatch and being an all-rounder never did the Apple Watch any harm. As long as you’re okay with getting a selection box of fitness and smartwatch elements, then it might well be wrist-puter for you. Still, if you’re not likely to go swimming, then we’d still recommend plumping for the Gear S3 Classic, which you can pick up for the same price.

Spinning bezel interface is excellent; Punchy screen; Versatile activity tracking; Swim-certified water resistance;

Claimed battery life is ambitious; Fewer apps than Wear or Apple Watch;

Samsung Gear Sport review

The Samsung Gear Sport is quite expensive but it's a great looking smartwatch packed full of tech, in a compact and light design. It balances regular and fitness features and also has decent battery life too.

Terrible definitely not sport watch

I've bought this watch one week ago but from day one I am having a lot of issues. GPS does not work correctly, poor battery life especially streaming music via Bluetooth from watch. This watch was made definitely not for sport. Perhaps, good as smart watch but not for jogging or doing any sport.

Great for swimming

Looks good and really comfortable . Tried 2 other makes before but had issues with them so returned them to. Curry's. Bought it to try and improve my exercise regime. However every so often I'm having to turn my phone off to re sync the watch.

Great and easy to use

Really useful and functional. Very easy to pick up and use straight out of the box. Pairs with the phone quickly via the Samsung Wearables App. The customisable watch faces are excellent and allow you to make it your own.

I wish it'd do PODCASTS

This watch is pretty cool, it looks good and does what you'd expect a smartwatch to do. My only problem is I thought I'd get a full Spotify experience, that's not the case. It has no way to play podcasts, a huge letdown because that's what I want to listen to on my long runs.

Samsung Gear Sport review: the best new Android smartwatch

As always, Samsung took advantage of IFA to make some announcements, especially in terms of wearables this time. In addition to the new Gear IconX headphones and the Gear Fit2 Pro fitness tracker, the South Korean manufacturer also announced a new Gear S series watch, still running Tizen, called...

The announcement of the Samsung Gear Sport a few months ago came as a bit of a surprise, because it wasn't exactly the idea of an upgrade for the Gear S3 smartwatch that most people had in their minds.

Rotating bezel; Built-in GPS; Super AMOLED screen with always-on mode; Waterproofing; Can track swims

Inaccurate fitness tracking; Lack of apps; Region-locked store

The Apple Watch might be the most popular smartwatch, but its controls and interface don't hold a candle to what you get on Samsung's watches. The problem is that because Samsung has been trying to start its own watch ecosystem with Tizen OS, its watches never received the rabid support that Apple's...

Samsung's smartwatch interface is still the best in the biz; 50 meter water resistance

Tizen app ecosystem feels thin; and some important apps are clunky
