Samsung Galaxy S23 review: Small and mighty

The Samsung Galaxy S23 isn’t earth-shatteringly innovative, but it’s still one of the best Android phones on the market right now. It’s stylish, snappy, and perfectly pint-sized, with a spectacular camera and performance to match.
Pros:
  • Compact size and clean design, Beautiful display, Speedy performance, Excellent cameras
Cons:
  • $100 more expensive than its predecessor, Only an iterative update on the S22, Only 25W wired charging

Samsung Galaxy S23 review: Small wonder

The biggest highlight of the Galaxy S23 is its size and the power it packs within it. The Galaxy S23 is undoubtedly the most powerful Android phone in its size. If you are looking for a powerful phone that has an impressive display, solid performance, a versatile camera setup along with a capable...
Pros:
  • Impressive display, Compact and lightweight, Powerful performance
Cons:
  • 25W fast charging

Samsung Galaxy S23 5G (256GB, Lavender) Australian Stock - Excellent review

Despite these issues, there are reasons to like the S23. I’ll be honest and say I didn’t expect I’d like the S23 all that much going in. On paper, it looked like Samsung had applied the most modest of updates, with the bulk of it being the chip, and really not much else.
Pros:
  • Great size, Solid design, Excellent performance, Surprisingly decent battery life, One of the last small phones (maybe), Water resistance
Cons:
  • Last year's camera (and not the amazing 200 megapixel of the Ultra, either, or even the 108 megapixel of the older Ultra), Minimal reason to upgrade

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 256GB, Graphite) - Brand New review

In essence, the Galaxy S23 FE is a budget flagship phone, one that outguns anything in the midrange Galaxy A-series line-up but is just a few paces short of Samsung’s current-gen flagship phones.
Pros:
  • Great quality display, Larger vapour chamber ensures better sustained performance, Good primary camera, Excellent battery life, Has DeX mode
Cons:
  • Only primary camera has OIS, Base display refresh rate bottoms out at 60Hz

Samsung Galaxy S23 Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 256GB, Cream) - Brand New review

The Samsung Galaxy S23 didn't really need to change a bunch of stuff compared to its predecessor to remain a stellar little phone. Little being the operative word: this is a small flagship with big successes, including a better battery than the last-generation model, and a neat design that's...
Pros:
  • Great small-scale Android option, Battery capacity increase, Updated design language
Cons:
  • Battery life less than Plus & Ultra models, No true camera upgrades like in the Ultra, Not hugely different to Galaxy S22

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 256GB, Graphite) - Brand New review

There’s nothing wrong with the Galaxy S23 FE, but it feels like an uninspired collection of surplus components rather than one for the fans.
Pros:
  • Nice, big display, Fun color options!, Four years of OS upgrades and five years of security support
Cons:
  • Lackluster telephoto lens, Sluggish portrait mode, Costs extra if you buy unlocked from Samsung

The S23+ is also great if you want a bigger phone, though it's less powerful than the Ultra.

Samsung generally announces a number of different models which all sit within its “S” line. The Samsung Galaxy S24 is its latest flagship device that will surely make its way to the top of the list among the best smartphones for photographers , just like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra did.
