Samsung Galaxy S22+ initial review: Finding that flagship sweet spot

Despite being largely similar to its S21+ predecessor - although the newer generation is marginally smaller - we feel the Plus is the model to strike the right balance of screen-size appeal in the 2022 S series line-up. Sure, generation to generation updates are marginal, but refinement rather than reinvention can go a long way in the flagship Android market.
Pros:
  • The optimum screen size in the S22 series
  • Smooth software and flagship performance expected
  • Neat overall design
Cons:
  • Minor differences to Galaxy S21+ overall
  • S21 FE launch was very recent - making it a cheaper viable option

Hands on: Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus review

It’s early days for the S22 line, but we like what we see in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus – and we think you will too. It’s a good design and has a great feel. The screen is expansive, colorful, and responsive. Front and back, the mix of cameras and capabilities seem right. It’s not skimping but also not necessarily pushing any barriers either (for that, look to the S22 Ultra).
Pros:
  • Solid, clean design
  • Cutting-edge CPU
Cons:
  • Slightly smaller battery than S21 Plus
  • Tops out at 256GB storage

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus Review: 2022's Easier Choice

At $999.99, the Galaxy S22+ is no more expensive than last year's Galaxy S21+, though you'd still be forgiven for wincing at the idea of basically spending four-figures on a smartphone and not even getting the full flagship.

Samsung Galaxy S22+ Plus (128GB, White) AU - Excellent review

Everything about the Galaxy S22+ feels premium but it lacks a certain wow factor, particularly next to Samsung’s other £949 folding flip phone . The screen is great, the camera is good, performance is snappy and the battery life is reasonable.
Pros:
  • Pros: 120Hz screen, good camera, One UI 4.1/Android 12, good performance, decent battery life, fast fingerprint scanner, five years of software support, contains recycled materials, premium feel.
Cons:
  • Cons: big, expensive, no headphone socket, battery life and camera bettered by others, no flashy features.

  • Fantastic AMOLED display, Capable processor, Impressive camera, Flat screen, Comfortable in the hand, Well incorporated camera bump
Cons:
  • Built-in colour scheme options a little lacking

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus review

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus falls into the riptide between the compact and relatively inexpensive S22, and the flashy and feature-packed S22 Ultra, and will struggle to find much love compared to them. Perhaps it doesn’t deserve to either because useful features like its powerful processor, photography modes, and attractive appearance don’t quite offset its high price. Its design doesn’t feel comfortable in your hand, and its software feels slower than on rival phones.
Pros:
  • Lots of processing power
  • Useful Portrait camera modes
  • Nice range of colors
Cons:
  • Very expensive
  • Not particularly comfortable to hold
  • Software feels slow
