Samsung Galaxy A80 review

While the A80 is a very likeable and premium looking phone, though it's a mid-range handset. The rotating camera is a clever way to maximize the gorgeous display which is one of its strongest features, making it an ideal companion for those who often watch videos and films on their phones.

Fragile

I bought it on the 4th of December 2019 to replace my 2 year old S8. I was drawn to it because of the camera and rather than splurging on the Note 10, I thought I should save myself some $$$ by not buying flagship but still an incredible phone.

Samsung Galaxy A80 Review

In April, Samsung launched in the Philippines its newest addition to the Galaxy A-series, the Galaxy A80 . It's one-of-a-kind for a Galaxy smartphone as it uses a flip camera module that serves as its rear and front cameras. Is this the ultimate mid-range phone for selfie lovers Let's find out.

Samsung Galaxy A80 review: counting the cost of creativity

With the Galaxy A80 , Samsung presented a smartphone that serves as a true flagship for its mid-range family. Like its siblings, it has a special feature to offer. This time it's a rotating pop-up camera paired with a full, bezel-less display: no hole punch, no notch.

Excellent display; Lots of camera options; Good battery life

Biometric unlocking awkwardness; Camera mechanism is loud; RAM and processor mismatch

Samsung Galaxy A80 review: The flagship alternative

Despite the omission of several features, the Galaxy A80 is still an impressive smartphone. As the flagship device in the Galaxy A series, it exudes a premium feel and build, and boasts some clever engineering and overall strong hardware.

Bold; premium design; Excellent build quality; Big; bright screen; Good performance overall; Generous memory and storage; That trick rotating camera; Above average camera performance; In-display fingerprint scanner; Super fast-charging + 25W fast charger bundled; Excellent bundled protective case

Average battery life; No headphone jack; No microSD expansion; No stereo speakers; audio could be louder; No Face Unlock; Fingerprint scanner could be more accurate; faster; better; That annoying Bixby Vision button; Premium price

Samsung Galaxy A80 review: brilliant idea, average results

The competitive push to make an "all-screen" phone has by now resulted in some pretty head-scratching design decisions. Starting with Apple's wide notch and ending with Samsung's display holes, they've done lasting aesthetics damage that was pretty much uncalled for - they could all learn something...

Big; uninterrupted; high-quality display; New Infinity design lets you take selfies with the best camera on the phone; Eye-pleasing; functional OneUI; Handy in-screen finger scanner; Very fast charging

Camera performance could be better; especially in low light; Middling battery life for the unit capacity; No notification LED and the AoD alternative is a battery hog; Weight and size are on the heavy and cumbersome side; Slow fingerprint reader
